I'm no expert but paratrooper chutes are different and the jump altitude is much lower. If you're coming in too fast to the ground there's not a lot you can do. Broken bones and other injuries aren't uncommon.

I guess that kinda makes sense, you're paratrooperin' only for couple of minutes tops, then it's back to being a grunt. Still, what a ripoff.

That's the problem. You go on a commercial skydiving trip you're probably jumping around 10,000 ft and pulling your chute at a few thousand feet. Combat jumps might be at 500 ft or even less. There's very little room for error.

My grandad was a paratrooper (and gay
) and he said there's basically only hard landings, it's all about learning to roll with it and not just bounce along and break a load of bones like he did once
