So think of it like this.
You start a band with some friends. You put out some songs, play some shows, maybe even do a few small tours. Odds are, you're making enough to cover gas, if that, and way in the red by the time you factor in your gear, a van, etc. This is most bands, but you're doing it for fun so who cares, it's an excuse to hang out with friends. But if you want to get serious about it, that usually involves PR, a booking agent, hiring artists for merch designs, all kinds of other shit. Some bands can do all this themselves but it puts a cap on how far you can go because any one of those things can be a full-time job in and of itself. So you either hire people to handle it, or you sign with a label or agency that takes a cut and handles it for you. If you're serious about making a living at it, this is basically the only path forward because the market is so saturated that you need someone to help you do the work to stand out.
That's basically it for OF too. Every 19 year old with big tits thinks they can become an OF millionaire, so now there's a million OF pages with a dozen subscribers. And OF is uniquely parasocial compared to old porn, you need to engage with subscribers to make them feel like they're connecting with you. You need to make social media posts constantly and they need to stand out over all of the other girls doing it. Agencies can help with all this stuff, but they take a cut and expect a return, and they can get pretty shady.
