In a remarkable statement Thursday, SpaceX founder Elon Musk said the International Space Station should be deorbited "as soon as possible."
Nice neutral journ*lism there.
Ars two years ago when Elon discussed going to Mars: "YES YES YES"
Ars when Elon suggests it now: "NO NO NO HITLER NO"
Let's see how the intelligent science lovers of Ars Technica have reacted to this:
Are you talking about the astronauts that definitely aren't stranded? https://rdrama.net/post/337811/ars-technica-are-so-mad-at

I don't give a shit about space since it isn't real, but how does deorbiting the ISS get anyone to mars?

We've sent drones to Mars repeatedly.
Isn't Elon also the guy who says having pilots in fighter jets is obsolete?
What purpose does putting a person on Mars serve other than peepee waving? Makes no sense.

A person? We need a black trans woman on mars.

NASA has stagnated into established companies getting handouts because retracting them is too politically costly. If you don't believe me, look up any article on the SLS:
It's difficult to get across the incredible scale and brazen nature of the corruption. Musk is right, NASA needs to take an axe to these pork-barrel programs - or DOGE can do it for them.

But this is an isolated incident right? Surely we don't have such grotesque pork in other areas of the government?

Also to note that several of the Administrators of NASA including one who has been beefing with musk is for Cost Plus contracts. AKA how Boeing is bilking us of our Tax Dollars.

The astronauts will stand on the end of a large plank of (carbon fiber) wood balanced over a fulcrum. The lever will be precisely positioned such that the ISS will plummet violently out of orbit and crash into the other side of the lever, launching the astronauts into space. With the right timing, the trajectory of the astronauts will carry them to Mars without the need for expensive spacecraft or rocket fuel, thus substantially reducing the cost of the expedition.

This plan also makes expensive life support facilities on Mars unnecessary.

The ISS is planned for deorbit in 2028. SpaceX won the contract for that last year. So this would bring the deorbit date forwards by 3 years.
