What would I do? Enjoy the fact that I have all the money in the marriage and not have to split and set me back years. Enjoy the fact that the adult kids have a parent and not have to deal with a potential new partner your ex brings into their life. Enjoy your life. You wasted enough of it staying and supporting.

I read the title and was going to make fun of a woman for treasuring the divorce over the convenience of a dead spouse, but this is tragic. Well-meaning oversocialized guys can be saved from the trans infohazard by itsafetish-posting but that was banned.

/u/CailanJade I went through something similar when the love of my life gained 40 pounds. I spent years as a ghost before finally reclaiming my life. You can reach out if you need to talk.

Seems like a win. You got to leave :marseyenterpipe: the weirdo and they will never :marseyladybugitsover: bother you again. Plus it's a funny :marseycarlos: first :marseywinner: date story.

I'm gonna be mean here. I did have some sympathy until I read to the end. This woman stayed in the marriage. Not for the kids, who were all adults by then, but because she didn't want to be seen as the 'bad guy'. If she had left and asked for a divorce immediately after the husband trained out, sure she might have been seen as the bad guy, but people would have understood: you married a man, not a woman, and this is too big of a change late in life.

But she wanted to be the hero who everyone thought was the perfect spouse, and she wanted to stay until her ex-husband was stable enough to have a life on his own so she could then triumphantly leave and be praised by everyone, including him: "oh I could never have done it without you, I owe it all to you".

Well, as it turned out, he was never going to be stable. And is anyone surprised? Huge change late in life, tons of surgeries, poor health, mental problems (maybe because hey turns out when you're in late 50s/early 60s you're never gonna be that hot anime chick). Anyone who describes themself as the "emotional support human" is playing a role as the saviour.

And then the husband died before this woman's fantasy of being applauded as the perfect ally and support and saviour could come true. She never got to live out her fantasy. She was so invested in lying to everyone in order to keep the perfect facade going, she never realised the time had gone. Thirty-three years down the drain. Now if she's honest about it and how the last five years were all a lie, now she really will look like the 'bad guy' to everyone.

Too bad. She made her bed, now she has to lie in it. Nobody is going to give her that big shiny gold medal she was expecting for being so awesome. She didn't want to be honest and leave early on, so now she's stuck with the fake image she constructed.
