Bro is really hating on a foundational human instinct. Dancing is as inherent to humans and culture and civilization as language and music and art. (286)

Which is completely irrelevant...Music is foundational to human instinct, yet there is lot of trash music.Art is foundational to human instinct, yet there is a lot of trash art.I hate dancing too, but it doesn't change the fact that there's a massive difference between a well-thought choreographed dancing (and I'm not even talking about classical or slow, even salsa or tango looks great) and whatever shit is happening in social media and club where people are throwing their limbs around like they're having a full-on seizure, when they aren't just showing their butt. OP, if you are seeing enough cringey tiktok dance videos then it's on you bud. Most of us dont see those videos unless we actually search for it and engage with it. (1619)

That's just it, I don't even have tiktok ๐Ÿ’€ (-41)

Seems like they were making a joke and not actually implying there is no other reason to hate dance (48)

Probably, but that's my pet peeve (I should make a post about it). I hate those kind of joke-ish comment. People think they're being smart but it just looks like they're trying to dismiss/belittle the others with random shit. (-38)

I think the line is very far into the "let people live their lives and shut up" territory. I don't care what clothes people do or don't wear. If being drunk keeps you from doing your job then don't do it, otherwise I do not care. Don't harass kids. Be as fat as you want, not my business.Shame is so negative on the individual that it's rarely justifiable. (3)

But it is justifiable in certain circumstances, you would agree.Harassing children warrants shame. Bullying the vulnerable warrants shame. Stealing (when you already have enough) warrants shame. There are things that SHOULD BE shamed & discouraged in our society, because if everyone did them regularly, society would collapse entirely. That is my point. But in all cases, the one being shamed only suffers from the shame. They do not benefit from being shamed, but we all benefit from existing in a society where others have been shamed into compliance with these norms.I understand you believe shame should be used sparingly, and I agree. The individual should live a life without shame in order to maximize joy and happiness. (3)

I upmarseyd your post OP due to agreeing with the title, however your reasons are cringey at best.I hate dancing and find it silly, but I can at least appreciate a good dancer and the art that it is. I'd rather die than dance, it just doesn't make sense to me. I do not feel rhythm, I've always been bad at clapping along to music. When I go on a dance floor it's like existing in a country where you don't speak the language. Yeah, you can pick up some words, but until I know the entire language I'm just fumbling around. I'm not standing in that country saying their language is stupid because I'm incompetent. There's so many different forms of dance, just because you see people twerking doesn't mean that Ballet is butt-centric, breakdancing isn't either, most of the forms of dance probably incorporate some moves where it involve a butt, but for the most part it's probably going to be fairly tame, depending on the music.Dance fighting even exists and it's not just shaking your butt at each o... Shame should be reserved for things that are actually harmful. Outside of that, shame is only negative. (5)

But where is the line?Is it harmful to walk outside naked? Or to make an inappropriate joke around kids? Or to get drunk before your white collar job? Or to be morbidly obese? All of these things are considered shameful in our society, but an argument can be made they aren't directly "harmful". Do you think it should be so normalized that we all do all of these things all the time?As I said, shame is only ever really negative for the individual. That's true regardless. You can argue that too much shame is bad for a society, too, and I fully agree with that. But too little shame is bad for a society as well. All things in moderation. (1)
