The post

I lost it with a class. A student made a Third Reich flag on the Chromebook in my class. Heard hitler and looked over then I went off in a profanity laced tirade about how many people died and they were not all Jews and you in a Parochial school. Showed a Holocaust video for the rest of the day for the rest of my classes. The video went went well and had some discussions I really don't need this job and may get fired but it's a good hill to die on.

Comment from the thread

I've had a few teachers flip their b-word switch when they saw something grotesquely wrong and immoral. Sometimes it's necessary to show your students your nonviolent rage to get a message across ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

If you get fired, there's plenty of other schools that will hire you. Thanks for standing up to hate ๐Ÿ‘

Reddit teachers continue to be normal people who definitely understand kids. I know the best way to get kids to not do something edgy is to have a massive reaction and break all the expected decorum towards them.

I think the reaction landing just depends on how much the students respect the teacher

If it's zero, which as they are a redditor is likely, it won't do shit.

Teachers who sperg out in front of their students all suffer the same fate. The kids talk over lunch period about what a spergout the teacher in question is, then they spend every single class period trying to push the teacher's buttons without going so far that they get in trouble, which wouldn't accomplish anything if said teacher had any self control, but if they did, this wouldn't be happening in the first place.

We had a teacher at my high school who was rumored to have vietnam shell shock (it probably wasn't true) and kids would frick with him all day long, dropping their books on the floor and making sudden loud noises and stuff. Importantly, he didn't react to it at all.

We had Mrs Hobbs. She was head of the math department but wasn't very good at mathโ€ฆor writingโ€ฆor English.

She was overly emotional and prone to getting carried away and crying about non-math related bullshit during math class. Like b-word, if these horrible mission trips you go on affect you this much, please just stop, a bunch of 10th graders are never going to care about some r-slur heathen tribe. Plus those people had no idea who Christ was before they showed up and ruined their tribal innocence. All those people are probably going to heck nowโ€ฆ

Anyways, Mrs Hobbs was trying to get back to the lesson and it was a word problem. We were supposed to be counting "fingers" but she misspelled it "fringer". My buddy noticed and shouted out "Mrs Hobbs can't spell finger" and she panics and erases her first attempt and then wrote "fingler" and for some reason this was the funniest shit ever to the entire class and everyone began laughing so hard. Even the goody goody preachers daughter was laughing. I wasn't laughing at Mrs Hobbs, but fingler was funny as shit and she completely lost it and ran out of the class crying. Just didn't come back that period.

Worst math teacher ever though. I had to take her for calculus :marseyshooting: and she didn't know calculus. It was the first time I studied my entire life so I could show up every day and make her look bad.

How can you do calculus when you can't even count on your finglers

She was literally learning it day by day, even though she had a masters degree. I really didn't appreciate how sad this all was until a few years into college after having some actually hard math classes.

My gut feeling is she actually had not taken a calculus class before. I haven't had calculus in about a decade now, but I could give you a basic rundown on a limit or derivative or integral, and even real world examples of where I've used them. She would read the definitions out of the book but she couldn't explain anything to us.

She wasn't funny, she was just an average woman trying to do her job, but she was so incredibly bad at that she produced hysterical levels of laughter in an American high school class.

You need the right amount of respect and authority to make kids not want to frick with you, or back off when you do react. I think it's guaranteed anyone posting on /r/teachers doesn't possess those things.

they are a boomer who took up teaching because they couldn't get anything else :marseylaughpoundfist: https://old.reddit.com/r/Teachers/comments/1hanilx/confession_as_a_22year_veteran_teacher_i_love_the/m1d9hcy/?context=8

/u/terrible-oil9569 at least you confirmed the phrase "those that can do, those that can't teach" before taking up teaching

And for the record if you do make it here no I'm not laughing at the serious topic at hand, I am laughing at you
