That's not true though? Magical girls have been played straight several times.

The Magical Girl genre has always existed in two forms: For young girls(7-12), or for college aged men. Precure is played fully straight for young girls, and Prisma Illya is played straight for older men.

Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete is a heavy deconstruction of the tropes. :#marseycoomer2:
