Reason for the protests is that farmers have a high 'net worth' but are typically quite cash poor - farms aren't all that profitable and massively expensive to run.

With land being expensive and farmers being poor, this will in principle lead to farm shutdowns, bankruptcies and divestiture of the wealth of the middle class, essentially a land grab.
This simple economic fact is unpopular with leftist university students who, despite never wanting to own land or farm, are bloodthirsty parasites with a hatred for their parents, for whom farmers are a reasonable facsimilie.
Even ignoring selection effects, this disastrous idea will raise about 300 million GBP, or about 18 hours of NHS funding.
