Darn, you're probably right.
Because Snape is not meant to be heroic, he's coded as a villain at the start. So how are they gonna make this guy the ugly, mean, consorting with the wizard Nazis character work? They will probably have to re-write his entire backstory so James Potter and the rest are racists for bullying him, and he was always the heroic character going undercover and infiltrating the wizard Nazis on behalf of Dumbledore, which ruins the story. Also if they keep Lily Potter as white, black guy obsessing over white woman and stalking her for decades? That's a big yikes from me!
This is "Rings of Power" level of miscasting. It's supposed to run for seven seasons? If they're lucky, they'll get one season then blame the failure on all the racists who didn't want to see a strong independent black wizard.
