Trump, asked if he's expecting a recession this year: "There is a period of transition because what we're doing is very big."

It's only Fed Policy. To bring down inflation, you have to have a recession to constrict consumer demand and get people to stop buying shit at inflated prices, forcing companies to come down on price gouging.
I mean, you could go another direction and introduce price-setting. That would probably be bad though. I'm so glad I have job security! (ie: don't work for the government!)

Inflation is 50% higher than what the Fed targets in "normal" economic conditions, you absolute mong. The Fed is likely, in conjunction with the president, trying to get down to the 2% mark.
Inflation is likely being stubborn not because of tariffs that aren't implemented yet (Tariffs are confounding factors when implemented.) but because Congress continues to deficit spend like drunk sailors. I know that HUD is going from like 50K+ employees to sub 10k. That right there is fantastic for government finance, compounded with other cuts.
I keep forgetting that you're a grocery clerk and I'm responding seriously instead of with "ayy lmao".

Cratering GDP growth from +2.5% to -2.5% to reduce inflation by 1% is absurd. Three (3) times in history we have had a 5% swing in GDP based on an executive directive to reduce inflation (under FDR, Nixon, and Reagan). All three of those times inflation was well into the double digits. Tanking GDP this hard to control this little "inflation" is an unmitigated disaster.

we were at 2.9% inflation in december and declining lmao.
Even if they aren't in place the cost of complying with tarrifs can instantly increase prices you absolute mong.
inflation is now higher than it was when Trump entered office, and pushing us into a recession will squander the soft landing we had out of covid.
this isn't even getting into the tax cut r-sluration which will also cause inflation. Literally everything Trump is doing will cause inflation.

That's not what Carter and Reagan did to bring down inflation.

I'm not going to confess that I know much about 70s & 80s fed policy, other than Greenspeak.

I mean, I think that's what he's trying to do by issuing clawbacks and trying to shrink the size of the government. Trump may be unintentionally doing something intelligent trying to reallocate federal dollars already in circulation to recession response. When Dems passed the IRA, they basically inflated the economy more through a massive green energy grift that was already a crapshoot.
Frankly, the Biden Admin is the turd in the punch bowl here, with bad policy reverberating years after the fact. This is probably going to be a really bad recession because we cannot just borrow our way out of it, so expect this with little to no stimulus.
