The part about the Congo people forget is that there were very few actual Belgians involved. A few administrators jangled the purse and handed out some rifles and let their African tribesman homies go around chopping off hands and otherwise brutalizing people. The worst of colonialism wasn't actual European evil, it was complete apathy towards evil so long as the money came in.
