Yet Another Round of Trackmania Drama Involving Riolu

Context

The Trackmania Youtuber Wirtual has uploaded a video in which he reveals that two mysterious accounts, which have set many world records in the racing game Trackmania over the last few years, belong to the German (Albanian) streamer and professional Riolu. Riolu was long considered one of the best players in Trackmania and was convicted by Wirtual in 2021 of having cheated many of his records. He has been inactive ever since.

Trackmania

Trackmania is a racing game series in which players set track records on race tracks using the time-trail principle. All players compete with the same vehicle. Over the years, a very active player scene has developed through the many offshoots of the series, with players competing against each other in leaderboards to set world records for the tracks. As world records often require very precise inputs, players often grind a track for days to set a new world record.

Prehistory

The German Trackmania player Riolu was considered one of the best players on the scene for many years. At times, he held almost all of the most important world records simultaneously in some offshoots of the game series. He was also active as an e-sports pro and streamer. A user then developed a tool for Trackmania replays that displayed the user's entries for their world record replays. It was noticed that Riolu's replays were often so fast that they were inhumanly fast. An investigation by Wirtual then revealed that Riolu had slowed down his in-game speed for the game in order to be able to control it more precisely. He used this method to beat thousands of world records in Trackmania for almost a decade. When he was confronted by Wirtual, he denied all accusations and was accused of blackmail, among other things. Shortly afterwards, he went inactive on all his accounts and there was speculation in the scene as to what he had been doing since then.

Since Riolu officially withdrew from the scene, players have noticed two accounts on the leaderboards that have set a number of new records, 92Bob and eddyeye. Both of these accounts have been speculated to be Riolu. In Wirtual's latest video, he has now provided numerous indications that these accounts and numerous shadow accounts belong to Riolu:

• The account 92Bob became active for a short time after Riolu was convicted of cheating. After that 92bob became inactive and shortly afterwards eddyey attracted attention with many records. After a player accused eddyeye of actually being Riolu, she became inactive and 92bob started setting world records again.

• All accounts played with the same rare controller model to set records, which were uploaded to the leaderboards.

• All accounts have logged into each other in-game and in forums for a short time.

• Many of the accounts use rare ingame skins that could not be downloaded publicly.

• The Eddyey account was originally created by a childhood friend of Riolu.

• Both players must be one of the world's best Trackmania players.

• The players must have a reason to play anonymously.

Riolu has also allegedly used his fake accounts to leak the real name of another Trackmania player, defend himself in comments, insult other players and spread rumors about ropingd to be active anonymously on Groomercord servers.
