The reason why is because I am unfathomably based: I think that the best argument for the minimum wage today isn't to do what's on the label but undermine support for leftist alternatives like sectoral bargaining.
You may have been comparing a minimum wage against nothing. I am comparing it against what has emerged as the primary political alternative in most Western, developed countries. There are places with both, but it's more common to have a minimum wage or sectoral bargaining alone.
