I see this meme all the time, but I have to ask who is this morass of communards who claim that the Soviet Union and China are not socialist? I'll give some leeway for China because of the emergence of a Chinese bourgeoisie under Deng Xiopingโalthough the bourgeoisie is not anywhere near as powerful as it is in the United States. Jack Ma cannot challenge the Chinese government in the same way that Elon Musk can.

A good example of Jack Ma in America is Marc Rich and just like Jack Ma after doing his dutiful begging and whining while giving gifts Marc Rich was given a pardon by Clinton. Unlike Jack Ma, Clinton isn't seen with Mark Rich at all. Xi can't say that. Robert F Smith is another great example he had to sell out his bosses and partner multiple times to dodge the IRS. What did Jack Ma do that is comparable to Marc Rich or Robert F Smith? Billionaires do occasionally get "lit on fire" in the US, but they are rare exceptions. Your two examples still ended in Rich buying a presidential pardon and Smith a non-prosecution agreement, hardly what I would describe as tribulations. Jack Ma was eventually rehabilitated, but methinks he's not criticizing the government anytime soon.
