My 6th grade student who cannot read past a 1st grade level tested in the 30th percentile…
Naturally we started to think "oh, so maybe she just knows she'll get the extra help so she really doesn't have to do much". So I started telling her "I saw your reading scores and I know you can spell "where" without my help".
Turns out on her reading test……SHE HAD A READER. Someone READ the READING test to her as an accommodation! What the heck.
Edit: to add she is NOT dyslexic. If she gets one on one help she can spell any word and identify all letters correctly without an issue. The main problem is she is in all gen ed classes with an IEP with no other support. It's up to us to figure out her to give her the attention she needs while also serving 30 other students
Surely the very smart and competent education system would never do literally anything r-slurred like this!!! There must be a non admin/teacher to blame!!! but go off i guess
um Counterpoint: Im r-slurred and now I have advanced worthless degrees in how we can make the education system worse!!!
Always remember: tests are not meant to measure ability, they are made to be passed, therefore literally anything that makes number go up = good PERIODT
Person points out IEPs are often r-slurred, and Mr, and Selective-Rainman disease (totally real, btw, and also hes very smart totally) is ready to scold

/u/Dangerous_Ad_5806 Dyslexia literally just means "bad at reading". People see a "diagnosis" and they equate it immediately to blindness and paraplegia because you worship medicine and disability. Giving someone a reader on a reading test is like giving someone a thrower on a jumping test.

I had a college professor who couldn't write because a brain injury. He spoke normally but would only write incoherent nonsense (I mean, worse than most professors), so he had his teaching assistants do that.
