I don't have any ferret pictures so here are deer
Anyway I was at Petco for (reasons) last weekend and spent like 20 minutes playing with the ferrets
The girl there advised very strongly not to buy a ferret. They can get bitey, the house always smells like ferret, they chew everything. She says she's never buying a ferret again. Don't care about the biting, smell can presumably be addressed with essential oils, candles, Glade plug, whatever, I just won't have it near anything it shouldn't be chewing.
Convince me not to buy a ferret please.

Hi! I am sorry that I am just now seeing this.
My thoughts: ferrets are very high-maintenance. You should not get one and just keep it in a cage all day. They need 6-8 hours of playtime every day. They sleep 18-20 hours a day, though, so that's a bonus. If you find you don't have the time to play that much, then I suggest not getting a ferret.
Ferrets also thrive with a buddy. So, if you get one ferret, you should probably get another. This helps with bonding and with tempering their bites, as they learn how to play correctly with each other.
Ferrets from pet stores are typically already de-scented and neutered/spayed. Therefore, their only real stink is their natural musk, which doesn't get too bad so long as you wash their bedding every week.
Their poop absolutely stinks and they'll destroy your carpet with poop and pee if you don't put down a pad or a bin in their favorite corner. Ferrets only poop in corners and hate filth, so again, they are high-maintenance and require lots of cleaning if you want to ensure no stink.
But ferrets are the most special, ridiculous, precious creatures with powerful personalities. They are loving and can be very cuddly if you play with them a lot. They chirp ("dook") when they are happy and they bring a great deal of joy to my life. Always remember that a ferret's favorite toy is you!
I hope this helps somewhat. But it probably didn't.
Throwback to all six of my babies at Thanksgiving. A weasel roast.

Thanks sneaky, this was really nice to read even if everyone convinced me that ferret friendship isn't for me. I think I would have a constantly good time with one or two or ten but I don't have 6+ hours a day that I can spend playing with them unfortunately and I wouldn't do that to them, even aside from the smell I'm told is constant and hated by everyone.
This is a real bummer because even just being climbed on by the little frickers was so much fun
That is a VERY FUN PICTURE by the way

You made a responsible decision and you should be commended for that. I will send you photos so you can enjoy them vicariously.
