A screenshot from a self-proclaimed former Marine infantryman tells other Redditors the truth about volunteering to fight in Ukraine. They don't like what he has to say one bit.

He's right, mostly. If you want to actually survive then you should have already trained in an actual military and in a combat MOS. They keep responding with "well Zelensky said..." yeah of course he's going to take any volunteers because the truth is there's a good chance of them losing Kyiv. And when they likely take Kyiv you won't be fighting DNR conscripts driving logistics vehicles. You'll most likely be fighting Russian infantry who are trained in urban warfare. If you surrender or get captured, Russia isn't known for treating enemy POWs well. Torture is common and summary executions aren't unknown since 2014. It isn't a coincidence that Russia travels with mobile cremation vehicles. A well-trained company can hold off a regiment of poorly trained attackers in a city. A poorly trained company gets surrounded and their bodies get disappeared.

Here are hot takes from COD heroes disagreeing with him and my highly intellectual commentary in response:

Would you tell that to the soldiers at the Alamo? General Washington give up your fight! Innocent Ukrainians are being slaughtered and you give cowardly advice to people that are willing to die for a justifiable cause. Stand your ground!

lol

After that, expect to die. People whoa re dead fight the hardest. If you couldn't handle your combat experience I am sorry.

lol wut

Donโ€™t let anyone tell you what wars you can and canโ€™t fight in.

yeah dad

"I'm an infantry veteran of fallujah and ramadi and I'm still questioning my qualifications"

Lol! This post is pure propaganda. The truth is in modern wars like this, you and your squad need to overwhelm the enemy with firepower and whoever makes the enemy squad retreats wins. It's a firepower battle, you just need to shoot in their direction while talking good cover. You won't he riding tanks, you won't he sniping enemies from a thousand meters. Now of course , you can still get hit, high possibility as there would intense firefights. You also need to be fit and have the courage/morale to fight. But to say that you need to be a decorated war veteran is false. Volunteers can do just as well or better than recruited army soldiers. Type on YouTube "Ukraine soldier guarding bridge has only fired 16 rounds in his life". Many here shoot more rounds than that on an average sunday afternoon.

๐Ÿ˜†

Doesnโ€™t take much of a brain cell to fire a weapon at a opposing enemy thatโ€™s attempting to take your freedom. Tell that statement to the Scottish fighters with pitchforks against the Kingsmen, or the colonies farmers and their simple hunting muskets. 10 plus years prior, and private contract here.

Fricking liar.

I remember when these same idiots wanted to go fight in Syria in 2012. I followed a few accounts who were very gung-ho about going, yet their Reddit usage remained unchanged in the following months.

The logical conclusion is that Syria has really good internet even during a civil war and that volunteer freedom fighters have plenty of free time to shitpost online.

There was a guy, I'm trying to find his name again, who went over there and joined the YPG and took a lot of pictures and wrote some blog entries (including a pretty interesting one about encountering some unidentified "american special forces" who he assumed were really CIA). I don't think he died. I'll edit the post if I can find his content, it was a good read.

Edit: this guy. https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2017/04/brace-belden-pisspiggranddad-syria-isis.html

His podcast True Anon is the only non-p-dophile Jeffery Epstein based podcast and I highly recommend.

What a way to go out, getting your butt shot off out in the desert for a country and cause you know next to nothing about. I have respect for people's balls for sure, but I just can't imagine playing mercenary being a good idea unless you're highly trained and highly paid, instead of being a directionless weirdo kid or a crazy person like the people we're talking about here.

I think modern western existence is so abstract and devoid of meaning that shooting a rusty AK at who the frick knows in some shithole and probably getting blown to bits is preferable because it's at least a real thing

This is a consequence of generations of MAD-enforced stability among the major powers. We don't even have the unity and competitive spirit that was sustained by the multipolar world of the cold war anymore. Everyone subconsciously pines for another world war that we will never have.

The PKK is really good at public relations. They do these guided tours for war LARP tourists to shape public opinion in Europe and the US. I wouldn't take it too seriously.

One of the last interesting Vice pieces I saw was this series on some American vets, like actual Afghanistan/Iraq vets that went to fight in Syria then - and it was funny, because they just gave up and went home because they didn't realize what war was like without supply lines and the whole U.S. military behind them. Like, they basically ran out of bullets and went home. And they talked about how brave the Syrians were blah blah, but it was a really strange set of videos and article. Would grizzled Redditors rise to the occasion more effectively?
