Those of us who left, including SF operators from multiple countries, are simply risk mitigating. The cannon fodder term is what was coming out of a lot of volunteers mouths that's why I mentioned it. There was a real shift in peoples expectations of being utilized as a unit with operational capabilities vs. the reality of basically being bodies in front of the advancing Russians

In my dad's generation every rightoid draft dodger claimed they had done super top secret stuff in Vietnam. He'd seen the guys who actually did that come back from LRRPs and throw their shit-stained clothes from 2 weeks in the jungle into a pile and pour gasoline on it and burn it all. I learned from that that platitudes about how horrible it is to kill probably come from people who haven't been incredibly uncomfortable for long periods of time.

I remember going to a proud boys vs antifa protest in NYC around that time. A couple of r-slurs were walking around with large hand-painted cardboard red crosses taped to their chests, and no actual medical equipment to speak of. They just asked random people if they were feeling ok. Sometimes they offered them water.
