One of the best things to do on Reddit is talk about what a great charity Autism Speaks is, encourage people to donate. Autists will come out of the woodwork to FREAK OUT because "I don't need to be cured!!" They get so angry, it's great.

They used to suggest that there was a link between vaccines and autism and funded studies trying to prove it. You can probably argue that they didn't fully support the claim but it still helped spread the veiw.

Doing away with the asperger's designation and putting everyone in one gigantic spectrum was such a mistake. Now people who are mildly atypical are under the same designator as those who are literally incapable of speech and can barely function in any capacity.
Because of this all these would-be aspies get all upset whenever someone brings up that autism can be crippling disorder. Or points out any of it's downsides really. They're so darn annoying. I really hope that one day they break up the spectrum again.

when I was growing up...
"neurodivergent" was the guy who needed diaper changes at 16 and only spoke in certain movie quotes and would start screaming when he didn't get the same kind of sandwich every day because the doctor said he needed a varied diet

I hate the fricking "I don't need to be cured!" talk. Yes you fricking do! You're currently taking meds that do the exact same thing if you've been diagnosed, a cure just means you wouldn't have to take the pills anymore. Also anyone who says they're neurodivergent without an actual diagnosis I will 100% believe to be an attention seeking weirdo.
