I wonder if their expensive consultants come from a little company called BCG? You're right, probably nothing.... (820)

Thankfully they don't have a useless CEO and Founder who fails to be profitable even during Q4 sales. (263)

Basedness: 🔥🔥🔥🔘🔘

Goodbye, Netflix. (2875)

So you will drop them just for adding the option of a lower priced ad supported plan that you will never use? (-89)

Basedness: 🔥🔥🔘🔘🔘

I can’t get HBO Max where I am but is it close to $20 a month and continuing to go up while also threatening to cancel password sharing? Commercial tier isn’t the problem. Commercial tier (around the price you used to pay for normal tier) as a last ditch effort after alienating your consumer base is the problem. (95)

So you are upset that you can't break the Terms and Conditions EULA i.e.(password sharing) (-40)

How is it that a company that led the way in revolutionising the industry has come to this pile of steaming garbage?Yo, seriously ‘people in charge’ what in the actual fck are you guys doing? It’s not just this, it’s been going downhill for some time now and it’s pretty darn pathetic. I hope this entire ‘streaming’ culture dies in a fire, to be honest. It’s gone to heck. There are far too many, spreading any good shows worth a watch across dozens of services I’m not willing to subscribe to. Mixed with countless in-house shows that deserve a negative one star rating. Who in the heck is making content decisions for all you guys? Is it the same one person, because he dumb as all heck and seems to be repeating the same story at every service provider. Bring back movie theatres. I miss them! The whole experience of having a day or night out, getting some food, watching some trailers and the main event on the big screen is far superior to binge watching a show, while in bed laying in the ... I’m obviously not speaking for everyone the way that corporations and CEOs have “fanbases” (🙄), but the general tone deafness of all these motherlovers make me sick. How this shit is put out for our consumption like we should understand their issues. I don’t think one rational adult thinks people should not be compensated for their work or even a company for an investment made, no matter how long that is. This shit is just corporate greed, ie capitalism. Regardless of demographic the majority of people are constantly (this ain’t recent) asked to pay more and more for less and less. FRICK that. Understand where consumers, scratch that, the majority of humans on the planet, are coming from. Frick you and your issues, we are broke! (1)

Btw, in case no one noticed, this article is from a website owned by Paramount and literally has a Paramount+ subscription link down at the bottom. It also isn't sharing any information we didn't already know, and the title is massively misleading. No actual plans or tiers have been announced.

Disclosure: PopCulture. is owned by Paramount. Sign up for Paramount+ by clicking here

All these people complaining about ads are upvoting an actual ad right now.

So let's not pretend the shady shit is only happening with consultants. There's some serious astroturfing happening. Like fricking scavengers swarming on weakened prey, they're making sure every last social media feed is filled with this exaggerated shit and people screaming about how awful and "dead" Netflix is.

Heck, the top upvoted comments in this thread have 10,000 karma already, while the main post still only has 30,000. When is the last time you've seen that? 10k comment karma on multiple top comments all spitting the exact same hyperbolic shit, on a 4 hour old post with only 30k karma?

Ironically that comment is probably the only one that even acknowledged paramount+ existed. I think I just reflexively ignore it even when I read about it, because it's just that irrelevant. I don't think anyone disappointed by netflix will subscribe to... p+. It would be like joining SRD because you are fed up by the smugposting on /r/drama.

But yeah the entire thread/article is obviously corporate shilling.

I'm fixing to get my NAS outta the closet and get it set up with a Plex server.

Looking for a way for it to automatically pull down torrents of new shows let me know.

Either way I'll make an effort post about my setup when I get it figured out.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

The standard setup is with Plex (or Jellyfin if you're freetarded) for playback, then something like sonarr for acquiring shows and radarr for movies, and something like qbittorrent-headless for the downloading. It's kind of a clusterfrick because there are some redundant features (e.g., having sonarr/radarr do metadata vs having plex do it) Use docker or proxmox to glue it all together a bit better.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Thanks, I read about sonarr yesterday when looking into it.

Setting yourself up with the same (and potentially greater) level of convenience requires basic technical proficiency.

Getting the right NAS, hard drives, setting up plex with remote access, and actually building and manitaining the library is not a very costly or difficult project

But most people have trouble turning on their own PC, let alone handling any amount of networking or data management.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Going to whatever the current website is and casting to the TV doesn't require much proficiency.

Jump in the discussion.

The problem with putlocker or watchmovies or whatever the frick is that you have to keep up with the wack-a-mole of sites getting shut down and replaced.

Even with Kodi repisitories you have to keep up with manual updates and forks (at least in my experience).

Jump in the discussion.

That's why I quit illegally streaming. All the old sites I used got shut down and I can't be bothered to find the new ones versus paying a few bucks a month.

Torrents + private tracker + seedbox is a great combo. Been doing that for about 10 years now.

The downside is that you have to be active on multiple trackers. Otherwise, if your tracker goes down then you're kinda screwed.

I swear the only reason piracy has lasted as long as it has is because it's relatively niche. Seriously, no one in my family pirates because they're all terrified of getting arrested or viruses or have no idea what a "torrent" is.

Give it a decade and through the efforts of MSM and government it will become as taboo a subject online as child porn.

What is globohomo trying to accomplish with this coordinated effort to get men addicted to tongue fricking chicks buttholes? Netflix is making a really heel hard turn into its deep maturity phase after going super hard into aggressuve growth after what appeard to be 1 bad quater.

Id mark this as the bellweather moment for the entire streaming service market. New entrants are going to have scant success going foward, and growth is about to slow and stabilize entirely on gradully rising subscription costs and value-adding. Subscriber ceilings are starting to hit, hard. And considering global wages arent going up significantly in the long term, any future growth is going to be significantly slower than what the industry is has previously earned.

TBH if you know what youre doing investing in a plex server + VPN is gonna give you exponentially more value then any subscriptions whatsoever, sans immediacy of viewership. Once you inevitably get kicked of your parents Netflix by their anti sharing tech, theres really no reason to spend cable prices on several streaming servjces you use less than once a month.

Yeah as far as mainstream streaming goes, the market seems saturated. Expanding internationally is going to become harder as individual nations are slowly launching local streaming services, even my small butt country has 2 now.

There will be opportunities to carve out a niche, like Crunchyroll, Shudder or CuriosityStream, but on the big global scale, the pie isn't going to get that much bigger, you're only trying to get a piece at the expense of others.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Yeah. Were seeing massive consolidstions right now because many rightsholders, such as paramount and peapeepee simply do not individually provide enough value to warrent a purchase at any price.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

"One way to increase the price spread is advertising on low-end plans and to have lower prices with advertising,"

this title is kinda misleading. it seems like they're just adding cheaper subs that have ads attached, and a more expensive sub that has no ads

Netflix is a commodity distribution platform that became synonymous with streaming simply by being the first to think of and execute it well. They locked up a ton of awesome content and had explosive subscriber growth by doing streaming back when the whole industry was in a mindset of cable and physical media rentals, and saw streaming as a kind of trivial bonus. Netflix deserves a lot of credit for being first and they got paid for that foresight in spades, by getting everyone and their mother to subscribe back when all the major studios were basically handing their whole catalog to Netflix, like, "sure, if you can make a few extra bucks from this on the internet, go for it."

But, somewhat like Kleenex, Netflix is no longer particularly special. There are a lot of streaming services now, and content creators and consumers both have a lot of options. I basically cycle between one subscription service at a time, these days, maybe two. Like, I'll watch HBO for a month or two until I get bored and run out of stuff, then cancel it and get Disney+, watch the stuff I'm interested in, then cancel that and get Showtime or whatever...Netflix is in that rotation, but I'm maybe paying for a couple months every couple years, unlike years ago, when Netflix was literally the only way I watched TV, and cancelling was unthinkable. Prime Video is kinda better these days, tbh, plus it gets you free Amazon shipping, or something.
