That did happen...In the 1970s and 1980s. Central america is a shithole because they cant fix their own fricking problems

Yes, because the CIA is known for being transparent. If they were to try that more recently we would of course know about it. Many reforms were put in place since the 80s to prevent that from happening again. They certainly haven't attempted coups in Bolivia, Venezuela, and Cuba within the past 5 years.

How many Venezuelans do you know? I work with three. Wanna know what they think of their government's ability to feed their citizens?

The opinions of the diaspora aren't generally reflective of the countrymen they leave behind

Of course Maduro has his flaws, but the sanctions we put on his government have done nothing but make the situation worse

And why exactly do you think the diaspora happened? Are the six million-ish (hur hur) emigrants all landlord gusano chuds? The country's been bleeding citizens for over a decade, and well before any US sanctions took place or started having any real impact. Even more people would've left if it weren't for the fact that their bureaucracy is complete shit and getting passports usually requires both lots of waiting and copious bribes, and the money for such often has to come from family who've emigrated managing to send funds their way.

Of course Maduro has his flaws

Maduro is a complete fricking r-slur who has only accelerated the downward course Chavez sent the country in, only he doesn't even have the charisma Chavez had. He's largely reaping what was already sown, but he doesn't have the competence to even arrest the momentum. The sanctions certainly didn't help, but the country was already fricked by a decade plus of gross mismanagement, corruption, oppression and pants-on-head r-slurred economic policy beforehand.

None of this is controversial or rightoid cope. Just ask any Venezuelan who's escaped, or most who still live there and have regular internet access (and aren't specifically in the pocket of the ruling party). The country is a hellhole and getting worse, the humanitarian crisis is nearly unprecedented, and stupid fricking western leftoids keep carrying water for the corrupt, dissent-squashing, oppressive regime because it's not about principles or human suffering, it's about scoring points for each team and it's easier to blame the all-powerful CIA than to admit that Latin Americans and left-wing politicians are plenty capable of fricking over countries on their own.

Yes I'm seriousposting on rDrama, frick me up longpostbot. I've heard too many harrowing accounts firsthand from Venezuelans who've suffered under Maduro's malice and incompetence to have any patience for this horseshit.

Obligatory seethe capy just because this is drama :chadseethecapy:

The point I was originally trying to make is that it often is not a choice for people who come here. They're escaping from shitholes they had no role in creating. I think it is more important to blame those in power responsible for creating that situation than those falling victim to it.

My beliefs are motivated by the same values as yours appear to be, which is compassion for the Venezuelan people who are suffering. What the solution to that suffering is, I truthfully do not know. I don't speak Spanish. I'm not familiar with their politics beyond the surface level takes I get from my news sources which generally lean left. And I'm probably wrong on my analysis of this. But I do hope things get better for them.

Yeah, sorry for flying off the handle. I just see a lot of sentiment online from bougie leftists who don't know shit about the circumstances of Venezuelans and hamfistedly try to fit them into their tiny preconceived notions (ie US bad, socialism good, if a socialist country is doing bad it's the US's fault, anyone telling you otherwise is just mad their slaves got liberated) and it drives me up the fricking wall.

Wrong. The map says that you are wrong. I certainly did not misread your original comment as "Latin America." And my opinions on foreign policy are always 100% accurate

I'm not a Democrat, and the glowies talking about Russian interference in US elections (aka buying a handful of Facebook ads) are the same ones who orchestrate those coups in Latin America, and did everything they could to shaft both Bernie and Trump in 2016 and again in 2020

No, you don't understand are entire armed forces conspired to end our Democratic regime for months and in the last moments before pulling off the coup we asked the CIA if it was ok. Basically means it's totally America's fault that are Army can't be trusted. Are own citizen's are too stupid to be responsible at all for the coup that was 99% their own doing.

It's clearly got post-soviet borders (and even Sudan is split) but it applies Cold War era labels

Was this made by a fricking dot head or som- oh.

The map is accurate according to the traditional definitions where first world countries were aligned with the US, second world with the Soviets, and third world neutral.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_World

But now third world is generally used to refer to developing countries
