Also this movie did so well just on hype, I haven't seen it (don't tell anyone) but it features 2 big stars, multi-starrers are rare and 2 big stars collaborating on a such a huge project itself created hype. combine that with the director, rajamouli, being know for making huge budget movies with great success(bahubali movies), the hype was hitting the fan. Imagine avatar level hype, huge budget, great director etc etc. It became like an event everyone must witness, hence the success, we constantly rib on these movies amongst ourselves but never to outsiders

TIL tamil is kollywood and kannada is Sandalwood lmao.
Also Bob gets ribbed on for his message oriented movies all the time, they even call his message movie streak the Message Trilogy, just check /r/ni_bondha and you'll know how deep the bob ribbing goes. However he has great potential and is stuck in this mass entertainer fad. There are some great movies which aren't mass entertainers but never get the recognition for the same reason (not being mass entertainers) DJ Tillu is one such movie.
My mom fell for this hype and watched KGF 1&2 back to back along with RRR and decided to never watch such movies again.
I stopped watching hindi movies almost 15 years ago. I absolutely detest every movie with prejudice. I think last hindi movie I watched start to finish was Sarkar. I hate the pretentiousness of hindi films nowadays.

Thanks for the recommendation, will keep in mind. Thinking about it, Mahaan seems like the only good movie this year from a major actor this year, disappointing. And the worst part is the mass entertainers becoming more and more shit, rajinikanths movies were the goals supposed to be set for them but that also is being fricked up now. The last telugu movie I watched was hit the first case, and I didn't like it one bit, retroactively. Like how do you frick up the murder mystery and make everything else good ? Oh well, shit comes from everywhere I guess.
And Bollywood films, I swear the pretentiousness is gagging. And kollywood might slide down that slope, but at least people here are self respecting enough so not that concerned with that.
