Romans killed a third of Gaul, British killed tons of Africans and Indians, and mostly things calmed down for both of them
Then again Nazis/Japs dealt with partisans in Russia/China forever and ended up losing even though they were happy killing a ton of them, but thatโs mostly because they were too overextended to clean things up like they wanted to. The Red Army/Chinese Armies beat them, not the guerrillas

The only reason Afghanistan was such a failure was due to the unique limitations of the American military, and not in any way due to the skill of Afghani fighters or the merits of guerilla warfare. Americans will never succeed in a single occupation of a nation that hasn't already had its male population decimated. They're too unwilling to comit retributive acts against the local populace i.e., "War Crimes" The British colonials managed to subdue entire vast swathes of the middle east because when one of theirs was killed they'd kill 100 of the locals in revenge, the same is true for the Turks. If the Chinese, Russians, or even Iranians or Pakistanis where the ones to occupy Afghanistan the Sunni Islamic forces would never have managed to "liberate" or "conquer" their nation back depending on your viewpoint. An American resistance against any such nations would see the same failures. Modern technology such as drones, surveillance cameras, and even simple things like ID's render too many advantages to an occupying force that doesn't have to worry about things like "The Press" or its own citizens bleeding hearts.

If you get invaded by anybody, your houses get fricked, your kids randomly die or disappear, your neighborhood becomes a mine infested wasteland and you become a sad little beaten dog of misery. If anyone in that state "fights back" that person is completely mental knowing full well that the occupying force will retaliate by raping the next group of innocent teenage women and shooting up some more suspects of doing the same thing.
