r/Neoliberal rages hard :marseywitchtriggered: about Biden's recent student loan cancellation

https://old.reddit.com/r/neoliberal/comments/ww1mxw/ap_sources_biden_set_to_announce_10000_federal

If you've got federal student loans and/or Pell Grants and make less than $125,000 a year single/$250,000 a year joint, congratulations! If you're an /r/neoliberal user, though, you may feel differently.

From the title: "I unironically would support impeaching Biden over this... Bad timing though, Dems may lose a lot of swing voters over this."

Another user expresses his disgust with the Democrat Party: "Suppose I’m politically homeless now."

A "big moderate" weighs in: "Going to probably vote GOP next election to express my displeasure at this."

"On the one hand, it's pretty dumb that people seem to think Biden is doing this to appease twitter leftists, when the reason he's doing it is because the NAACP, Raphael Warnock, Jim Clyburn, the Congressional Black Caucus, the Congressional Latinx Caucus, and other key Democratic stakeholders have been arguing for $10K in forgiveness (or more). On the other hand, it's really funny that some people on here seem genuinely betrayed because they think Biden has sided with bernie bros over them."

"A deplorable handout rewarding financial mismanagement. It makes a fool out of the responsible people who paid off their loans instead of buying video games and the newest iPhone." :soyconsoomer:

"I am seething. This sucks so bad. Literally taking from the poor and giving to the rich" :marseypoor: β†’ :marseycapitalistmanlet:

"I hope it hurts in the midterms. Buying votes is one of the most dangerous trends in a democracy, and this shit needs to be stopped now."

"You live in a truly insane bubble if you think this will hurt Democrats politically."

"Still seems fricked to me. My step dad who didn’t give a frick about me and didn’t help me made plenty of money. But because i lived in his house, i didn’t get any grants, just loans, and he didn’t give me a penny."

"My parents worked very hard, saved diligently and made huge sacrifices in order to put us through higher education without debts. Can we be "forgiven" $10,000 also, for each child? That money could sure be put towards my parents' retirement. Or are we obliged to pay $10,000 extra, to cover for poorer kids going to university to mostly do useless degrees?"

"I'd have preferred a much more means tested policy, perhaps aimed just at those who make below 50k or 25k rather than 125k"

"r/neoliberal: Actually everyone with a college diploma has at least 3 yachts and a summer home in the Hamptons" :marseycope:

And much more in the SRDine thread writeup.

I like how Pizzashill is such a pathetic wingcuck he dodges the challenge of the original comment which is blue collar workers are going to be paying off college students loans (as an average people with degrees will out earn non degree holders by 40% in their lifetimes) and instead makes up a straw man to attack "HAHA BRO U THINK EVERY COLLEGE STUDENT IS A BILLIONAIRE HAHA FUKEN DUMB RIGHOID GET OWNED REDDIT STYLE"

Just because they threw in a few millions poor people in there doesn’t change the fact that majority of people benefiting will be the upper middle class of society.

Congratulations to Joe Biden on his wealth transfer and further cementing who his real voter base is, dipshit white twitter kids.

Neighbor the rurals you're talking about are already heavily subsidized by urban voters lmao.

You don't get to suck up 70% of our tax money and also amount to 30% of our gdp and b-word about "subsidizing" others.

Neighbor, the fact that you think :marseynoooticer: rural :marseyfrontiersman: Americans are "sucking up" 70% of tax money :marseycapymerchant: shows how little :marseybaby: you know :marseyhesright: about the distribution :marseychartgaussian: of federal :marseydoit: tax revenue. In reality, the top 20% of earners pay more than 70% of federal :marseydoit: taxes, while the bottom :marseylong3: 20% pay less than 3%. So if anything, it's urban dwellers who are subsidizing rural :marseyfrontiersman: Americans, not the other way around.

They fricking do you r-slur, rurals suck up a massive amount of federal funds:

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/21/upshot/as-american-as-apple-pie-the-rural-votes-disproportionate-slice-of-power.html

It exists, as a result, in the formulas that determine where highway funds are spent or who gets Homeland Security dollars. It exists in state capitols, where bills preferred by urban delegations have been much more likely to be rejected.

But even when you control for policy need, Dr. Lee’s research has found that a significant rural bias in resources persists. You can see it in Homeland Security funding that gave Wyoming, for example, seven times as much money per capita as New York after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. You can see it in Alaska’s proposed β€œbridge to nowhere.”

β€œIn that case,” Dr. Ansolabehere said, β€œAlaska has so much disproportionate power in the negotiation over funds that in order for California to get some, Alaska gets a lot β€” to the point of not knowing what to spend the money on.”

These calculations also mean that populous states subsidize less populous ones, which receive more resources than the tax dollars they send to Washington.

So what you're saying is that the states with less people are doing better than the states with more people? That doesn't make any sense. And if rural areas are getting more money from the government, it's because they need it more. They have less tax revenue and more expenses.

Pizza says stuff like this and then balks at any mention of austerity which would actually punish ruralcels and everyone that needs gibs.

If you're gonna measure GDP by county you can't measure federal money intake by state.

another midwit who confuses red states with red voters.

reality:

  • the blue voters in red states are sucking up a lot of tax money (not 70% though, no idea where you got that from)

  • the red voters in red states see what a gigantic waste this is, and how disgusting and useless the blue voters in their state are.

that's why they're voting against those transfers!

the reddit favorite stereotype "republican welfare recipient who hates welfare" exists, but he isn't very common. red states have a lot of blue voters, and they tend to be the main recipients of government-enforced wealth transfers going into that state.

This is hilarious. You can go loom at county level stuff. Rurals are government leeches.

The counties dems win are like 75% of our gdp.

and even in those blue counties it's still the republicans who are paying the majority of taxes.

I have, several times. You are delusional if you think the largest counties in America, counties in which democrats win by 70% are funded by republicans.

You'd have to be a literal r-slur to believe this.
