Chat GPT's List of the Most Sexist Old Movies to Watch

Got halfway through "Gone with the Wind" yesterday coincidentally so I've already started the marathon. Scarlett O'Hara really is a c*nt. Does she represent the South? I think Rhett Butler is like the spirit of the modernizing North (and rich industrialists who would have been happy to let the Southern ruling class just keep being rich and prosperous.) He's like "b-word, I love you because you're a rich, selfish c*nt, that's just like me, we're self-interested pieces of shit, we could just be happy together."

But like the South, she maintains her romantic, fairytale delusions of chivalry, to her ruin (like the South.) Her c*ntitude represents the c*nty Southern landowners who had to fight a ruinous war. And we see how sexism and art are intertwined beautifully in this classic allegory that was a massive hit, both in novel and film.

I haven't seen most of these, thoughts? Is it a good list? I'm pretty sure #2 is REALLY sexist (I've heard of it,) but what about the others?

Avatar: The Way of Water has become the fifth highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing the collections of Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War (2018). According to Box Office Mojo, James Cameron’s Avatar 2 has grossed USD 2.054 billion worldwide, which is higher than the lifetime collection of Infinity War, which stood at USD 2.052 billion.

Avatar: The Way of Water is expected to beat the collections of the 2015 blockbuster Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, which had raked in USD 2.069 billion, over the weekend. It will then become the fourth highest grosser of all time, right behind Avatar (2009) at USD 2.93 billion, Avengers: Endgame (2019) at USD 2.797 billion and Titanic (1997) at USD 2.195 billion.

Avatar: The Way of Water is Cameron’s third film to hit the USD two billion mark, after Avatar and Titanic. A major share of Avatar: The Way of Water’s collections are from the international market. The visual drama has grossed USD 603 million in the US domestic market, while international box office contributed USD 1.45 billion.

A sequel to Avatar, The Way of Water has been having a phenomenal run at the Indian box office as well, raking in Rs 475 crore gross in 42 days. The juggernaut came to a halt with the release of Siddharth Anand’s spy action thriller Pathaan, marking Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback to the big screen after four years.

The events of Avatar: The Way of Water are set more than a decade after the first film. The story revolves around Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), his wife Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), and their kids who battle new challenges to keep their home safe. The sequel features Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Jamie Flatters, Britain Dalton and Trinity Bliss.

Hamilton live thread -- 8PM EST

We're watching Hamilton, press play at 8pm. No pausing, hold it in or wet yourself.

But AIDS, I'm too racist to enjoy Hamilton.

Racists will enjoy Hamilton the most, it's a contemporary minstrel show cf. The Wiz. It's not a palette swap, it's Black 1776. The cabinet debates are rap battles, the duel at the end is based on a Biggie Smalls song. The premise is that, to the British elite, the Americans were a bunch of BIPOCs. The international reputation of the US was like Liberia, a hearty chuckle and amusement that 'they're still going ahead with that.'

But AIDS, it's going to be boring.

It's Friday evening and you're watching musicals with a bunch of fat old men. Participating in the comment section will be the most social experience you've had all year.

But AIDS, I hate centralized federal government and believe more powers should be devolved to the states or the people.

Thomas Jefferson is the best character, he's :!marseygigachad: personified.

But AIDS, won't it all be white guilt and slavery bullshit?

They hint at slavery once and otherwise don't mention race. The only racial commentary is that King George III is the only white person in the show.

The saltiest and most buttery bits of popcorn:

OP thinks it's unrealistic to show teenagers smoking pot in a basement in the 90s.

Oh - and kids sitting in a basement smoking pot during the climax of the war on drugs? Do you realize it had been turned into a super felony by 1995? The whole show is stupid. Not nostalgic at all, and you obviously didn't live through the 90s.

In the 90s, the only teens who smoked pot at a young age were the super losers who never went to college, got pregnant in high school and then turned to meth.

^ Respondent completely disagrees.

OP is convinced that they have superior taste, and that nobody who lived through the 90s could possibly have a different take. If they do, they're lying or stupid.

And I don't have a negative mindset. I likely just have better taste and higher expectations than you do.

At least I'm not lying about my age. Your vernacular and grammar means you're either a regular 18-23 year old person OR you're a really unintelligent 40-something.

Nope. Your usage of lmao puts you squarely in the Obama generation. Stop lying - it’s pathetic.

^ Once again, respondent disagrees.

OP, however, sees an opening because respondent mentioned having a job. OP made sure to showcase their quick wit by replying:

Is McDonald’s a fun place to work?

OP begins to mention Obama quite a bit more, and seems to have something against people who were young during his administration.

Also - only a teen during the Obama administration would write a post only to tell someone to not respond. The entitlement shows.

^ New respondent doesn't like seeing what seems to be a political inference being made, and calls for the mods to ban OP for breaking subreddit rules regarding 'being civil and respectful' and remaining on topic..

This leads OP to sarcastically call on the mods to ban everyone in the thread whom they feel also violated subreddit rules. Eventually, this devolves into OP simply replying "Rule violator !!!" to people.

Finally, the OP passive-aggressively decides that any use of gendered language, even if not being used in a gendered manner, is sexist:

This guy lmao

Sexist!

and;

Get a grip dude. It is a silly 90s style comedy sitcom. It's supposed to be super light hearted and silly.

Sexist

You keep referring to me as a man. Your assumptions are sexist.

Weekly "What are you watching" post #2

I've been rewatching White Collar, a comfy low-stakes show about a dapper thief who works with the FBI to solve fancy crimes (but also frequently kidnappings and murders and bank heists, because ACTUALLY dealing with white collar crime would be MAD BORING)

What tv shows and movies have you been enjoying over the last week?

Chinonye Chukwu, director of Till, is reacting to the Oscar snub after her film was not nominated at the Academy Awards.

In addition, Danielle Deadwyle was left out of the Best Actress nominations for her portrayal of Mamie Till-Mobley, the activist looking for justice after the murder of her son Emmett Till.

“We live in a world and work in industries that are so aggressively committed to upholding whiteness and perpetuating an unabashed misogyny towards Black women,” Chukwu posted on Instagram.

She continued, “And alas. I am forever in gratitude for the greatest lesson of my life – regardless of any challenges or obstacles, I will always have the power to cultivate my own joy, and it is this joy that will continue to be one of my greatest forms of resistance.”

Chukwu was not the only one that reacted to the Oscar snub. Whoopi Goldberg shared on The View her thoughts after Till was not mentioned during the announcements this morning.

“Before we start off, we just want to celebrate the talented artists and filmmakers who were nominated for Oscars this morning,” the show’s moderator said. “Unfortunately, my film, Till, was not nominated, but we do want to congratulate all the nominees, because many of them have been here and it’s wonderful to say congrats, so that’s what we’ll do.”

Goldberg, who served as one of the producers of the film, also starred as Alma Carthan, Mamie’s mother and Emmett’s grandmother.

Why does everyone suck the peepee of this movie? It's a confusing mess

The theme of the story makes no sense. Are we supposed to relate to the chef, or are we supposed to see him as a madman? If we are supposed to see him as a madman, why do they spend so much effort setting up the patrons as unrepentant buttholes? If we are supposed to relate to him, why does he offer totally r-slurred reasons for hating the patrons - for instance, the actor ("you made a bad movie"), the actor's mistress ("you didn't have college loans"), the main character ("you... uh... didn't want to die") or the cheating man's wife (no reason given lol, frick you).

Why is the chef spending so much time with this elaborate pageantry when he is just going to kill everyone and himself, especially when we find out that he doesn't even enjoy it?

What's the deal with the chef's cooks? Why do they all love him so much, enough to die for him?

What's the point of the Chef's dichotomy of "givers" and "takers"? Why, in the climactic moment of the movie, does he seemingly change from hating butthole "takers" (the patrons) to loving butthole "takers" (main character treating the chef like shit and ordering goyslop)

Why didn't the other patrons try to order a cheeseburger?

Was a theme of the movie that you shouldn't criticize anything? (The Chef is angry at the critic for shutting down other restaurants by being too harsh in her reviews). If so, why does the Chef do the exact same thing to the actor who made a bad movie? Is it supposed to be implied that the critic was lying? If so, why was this never brought up as a plot point?

Why did the patrons all sit there like dumb idiots while they were burning alive? Did they tie them up off-screen? Don't try to say that the marshmellows were restraints, because the cooks just sat the marshmellows on top of the patrons like a shirt or a shawl.

[Review] Velma

It's okay. Not fantastic but not unwatchable either.

The show is more self-aware than I expected. Velma is a classic :marseychonkerbutch:, but the show often points out her wokeness is just a cover for her personality problems. For example, one episode evolves around Velma teaching the popular girls to be less hot. She goes on a :marseycrusader: to free these women from internalized misogyny. However, by the end of the episode, the :marseyfans:point out she's projecting her own insecurities and that she's more controlling than the hated patriarchy.

Pilot is full of cool Lovecraftian :marseycthulhu: sequences, reminds me of the Batman cartoons from my youth. Sadly later episodes have very little, total bait and switch

Worst part of the show is no Shaggy voice

It's better than Harley, which received a lot more praise

A Better Tomorrow

The movie has it all. The action sequences and set design are phenomenal, the story is convoluted but it actually ends up working great and visually it's amazing. I've only seen Hard Boiled as far as John Woo films go before this, and A Better Tomorrow is better imo despite Hard Boiled having tighter fight choreography. Will definitely watch again, 80s Hong Kong is something else

Recommend me John Woo or HK action flicks ITT
