Can't wait for Nier Automata anime in January. Curious how well it'll work as anime because the games story (not gameplay tho) was great and I love Yoko taro's works

The anime film festival was nice they put a real life :marseyjapanese: qt in an oversized pikachu costume to act as a greeter :marseylove: :marseypikachu: Would simp for her nasal arigato gozaimasus so bad. Lots of nips even otherwise I had no idea there were so many anime watching nips in Delhi. Fellow Indians mostly weren't weirdos, some riajuu who actually whooed at scenes like a bunch of dumb r-slurs but :marseyshrug:. I watched 5 movies but missed out on the one I wanted to see on the big screen most, kimi no na wa :marseysulk:. Booked out :marseyseethe:

I saw Weathering With You on the big screen, but would have much preferred to see Kimi no Na wa. I did get to see Kiki's Delivery Service on the big screen just a month or so ago and god I had forgotten how great that movie is.

What was your opinion on Weathering For You? I didn't think it was as good as Kimi no nawa personally but the animation and art direction was gorgeous.

The scene near the end where they're sky diving and the songs beat hits just right was pure kino I got goosebumps seeing it even on a small screen but on a large one...

Pretty much the same thoughts on it.

Though it was actually pretty crazy they went with an ending that really seems like it's saying "frick climate change, it's not worth giving up personal happiness to prevent since we'll adapt anyways". I'm not sure if that was actually the intended message, but it's hard for me to read anything else into it. I don't know how else you can interpret him saving her from a life without any modern amenities at the cost of Tokyo flooding.

The only anime I've ever watched was a few episodes of intitial D but @GigaVaccinator is out of shit too read rn and need a time sink. Gimme a recommendation. Nothing too normie so @GigaVaccinator don't subconsciously know the entire plot from weebshit memes I've been residually exposed too over the years.

Idk what kinda genre you like, but you could watch the cyberpunk anime, its pretty normie but also pretty new so there shouldnt have been too many spoilers.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

@GigaVaccinator don't really have a genre preference but if @GigaVaccinator had too choose @GigaVaccinator guess sci-fi? But not the technobabble nihilist reddit bullshit, more the whimsical space adventure epic. My main thing is stories that don't drag on for 6 gorillion episodes and have an actually conclusive ending.

Pretty sure @GigaVaccinator know how the Cyberpunk show ends but I'll check out the first couple episodes tomorrow.

How about Outlaw Star? Otherwise there's the billions of Gumdams and Macrosses but someone else can field questions on those universes. Someone else already mentioned Cowboy Bebop and while it's not really an adventure I'd say it's a classic for a good reason.

I went in thinking it was going to be some tryhard edgy show that I would drop, but it honestly wasn't that much heavier than Goblin Slayer. One of the heavier scenes was already done in Evenicle. Legitimately watched it for the plot. The ecchi was pulled off much better than most shows however.

Eh, it felt pretty tryhard edgy to me tbh. I didnt like goblin slayer either tho, dropped both after two episodes I think, maybe theres a pattern.

Um, actually, the best isekai is Mushoku Tensei :soyjakanimeglasses:

Actually just finished Bookworm. Shame to hear there likely won't be a Season 4. Guess I'll just wait for the manga to be fully adapted from the LN.
I'm assuming we're going to have to wait a year to actually watch the slime movie though, right?
Currently waiting for Maou Gakuen to air s2 and 3 before watching season 1.

They would need 100+ episodes for the entire story, And there's a lot of meetings, that might not convert to anime so well. The manga will take no joke 10 years to catch up, minimum. Sorry bud, but you've got no other choice than to get to readmaxxing. Nobody has ever regretted reading bookworm, just saying...

(I'm legally required to inform you that I am in fact an unpaid shill for TO Books, the publisher of Ascendance of a Bookworm.)

As for the Slime movie, hopefully Crunchyroll picks it up fast. but I guess it has to stop airing in theaters in Japan first.

No, they go up as they air for single episodes. Batches depend on the uploader. Idk manga and LNs can take a bit since its normally multibook batches

I'm mad about Bocchi's latest episode. Why'd they have to do the performance scene in 3DCG? (And don't give me any of that "they traced over the 3DCG so it's actually done in 2D" bullshit, it's still 3DCG at its core.) Everywhere else throughout the show they've had great animation and then for one of the core scenes it's completely sterile, always on-model, souless animation. The direction for the scene was fine even, but the models and character animation were super disappointing.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Idk the anime you talking about, but 3DCG really has been a disaster for anime, its always looks bad, and even if they do their best to conceal it it still looks uncanny.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Bocchi the Rock. It's about a girl who autismmaxxes into playing guitar to try to get popular and then realizes she still doesn't actually have any social skills. And I completely agree. It wasn't even anywhere near the worst I've seen, but the rest of the show has been so on top of it from an animation stand-point (not KyoAni level, but still alright) both in terms of quality and creativity that using 3D for what should have been a sakuga scene stuck out like a sore thumb. There was even a closeup of the guitarist's hands while they were doing a short speedpicking phrase but the whole cut was done on 2s and it looks like she's just vaguely flailing over the pickups, like they had a computer pick the frames and they just traced over them without even realizing that they didn't match up with the music or even have the resolution to do so.

Anyone watched these movies and can post their thoughts? I heard they were kino, was planning on checking them out:

  • Tamako Love Story

  • The Boy and the Beast

  • Hotarubi no Mori (Into the Forest of Fireflies' Light)

  • Patema Inverted

  • Classmates

  • Children Who Chase Lost Voices

  • Josee, the Tiger and the Fish

These movies were recommended alongside Maquia: When the Flower Blooms - which was one of the best kino animated movies I've seen alongside Ghibli films. So I'm wondering if these stack up in quality.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Hotarubi no Mori is pure. Just a fantastic portrayal of growing up. But I am biased towards that genre.

Tamako Love Story was meh.

Another similar movie was words bubble up like soda pop which was interesting more so from how much it taught me about haiku than about the movie itself.

Haven’t seen the rest.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Hotarubi is 6/10 at best watched it with foids during a film festival nearly wanted to slit my throat because they thought it was le masterpiece while I was busy not falling asleep.

Patema has a dumb premise and isnt particularly interesting. I also saw this at the same festival and it was somewhat appreciated by the younger audience. So if you like the taste of adolescent kids (yeah i did that on purpose) you'll love it.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

As one of the 5 people who saw patema inverted, it’s been a long time but basically it’s one of those movies that you have to be 14 to fully appreciate the heavy-handed symbolism and dystopian setting.

Hotarubi no Mori was good, but I might be thinking of a different thing with a similar plot. I'm pretty sure I watched Patema Inverted drunk but that's all I can tell you about it

I can't take this show seriously. I watched the first episode and the premise is so ridiculous that I would think this was an otaku comedy were it not for the serious tone set by the art direction.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Of course it's a comedy. Are you :marseyautism:?

Jump in the discussion.

I hate comedy so I wouldn't be into it regardless. I just thought it was bizarre how it tries to present itself as serious when the actual content is not serious at all.

Jump in the discussion.

The manga is half comedy. That's why a bunch of people on /a/ are pissed that they decided to adapt the anime the way they are.

Anyway, do you have any anime related news?

In the next like two months I have like [[redacted]] figures coming in and I spend way too much on manga, LNs, and BDs. On the other hand I spend more on ammo.

Beyond that not much to report beyond the seasonals and working on VGundam. Witch from Mercury is better than Victory Gundam right now, though the school drama side can be really slow.

Still going through Naruto Kai. The Chunin exams are finally over and now the plot can come back :marseyparty:

I realized the other day that Naruto and Neji are like Spongebob and Squidward, in that as a kid you empathize with the former, but as an adult you realize the later is just unlucky enough to be surrounded by r-slurs all the time.

Oh, you're right that was pretty cool too. Early Naruto had a lot of potential.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

A shame they don't give any attention to the world properly. They also don't do typical ninja stuff either. The most you get is one ninjq village is full of black people and blonde white women lmao

:tradwife: X :marseyblackcock:

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

The fights are cool true, and I understand the purpose of showing off what side characters can actually do. But most side characters in Naruto stay that way, so any attention given to them is a distraction from the main story because they almost never enter into the main story. I don’t hate the Chunin exams but I’m glad the main attack on the village is finally starting.

Also little kid Naruto can be really annoying. It’s also funny that Neji is right about destiny and all that because Shippuden established Naruto is basically Jesus and was always meant to be.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Nah, Naruto is written for dumb kid/teens so any meaningful analysis is completely redundant. Naruto went from a solid 5-6/10 to borderline insulting garbage during the great war and its aftermath (w/e the Kaguya Arc was).

It’s also funny that Neji is right about destiny and all that because Shippuden established Naruto is basically Jesus and was always meant to be.
