The skinwalker annoys me most because the 4chan version is an r-slured take on the real thing. Folklore accurate Skinwalkers are insane shapeshifting murderous witches who get that power by murdering a loved one. They can pretend to be your husband, walk into your house because you let them in, murder your family, and then fly off in the form of an owl. They are much scarier than just a weird desert dwelling creature.
I have one of the call of cthulhu solo books which has a big disclaimer at the front autoflagellating about how its main beastie is a wendigo. For a game which robs every bit of mythology it can it felt pretty pathetic.
SCP - 096 is literally a wendigo and the progs don't mind. The trick is too change it a little and not call it the offending word. The prog mind is so regarded they don't recognize a thing without the offending word being used along with it.

A lot of Indian folklore monsters are considered taboo to talk about. People mistake this as some sort of cultural or moral thing when they actually just thought the scary monster comes after people who talk about it lol.

because it is 'culturally appropriation' and 'disrespectful to indigenous religion and culture'. I put quotes around these not to dismiss them as criticisms, but to have a direct quote/point to be able to point to.
Indigenous arts and culture being strip mined by outsiders for profit has people sensitive and suspicious of outsiders using native folklore and motifs, especially when said outsiders have often (purposefully or not) misunderstood the stories or folklore resulting in cultural misrepresentation. And when you're a small group that misrepresentation may be all everyone ever learns about you, so congrats that's the popular image of you/your tribe/your folklore now. The resulting attitude is often of either wanting to be very involved in the creative process if native lore is being used, or just wanting to be left the frick alone.
Also because sometimes myths are actually part of active belief systems, and people always get extra touchy about belief systems being misrepresented or profited from. Which is understandable, especially if you're a small group and your religion has a recent history of being surpressed
That being said, American Indians aren't blaimless, a lot of their failures have to do with tribal infighting and inability to form a collective group and fight against the common enemy (yts).

I don't know if anybody but white progs would be offended if you put a wendigo in a game but they get offended at everything.
I just thought it never happened because no one knows what a wendigo is. Same with other native legends, not enough people are familiar with them.

White progs tried to get Speedy Gonzales removed from reruns and invented Latinx.
Beaners told them to eat shit and die on both accounts since they love Speedy and hate Latinx.

We shit on them for ~500 years, their population got decimated, and their land got took.
It's a touchy subject when you have the most powerful country in the world, built upon slavery and persecutuon of the indigenous population.
