Why do all Indian actors and actresses look as unindian as possible?

Indians hate being brown, and hate they way they look in general. (for the record, I find Indian women sexy AF)

You almost never see a short, dark, Dravidian or Bengali Bollywood star, even though they make up a huge proportion of the population.

Satyajit Ray was an exception. The Indian film industry is dominated by Bollywood out of Mumbai.

I guess I just have low standards for Indian reviews.

they are among the few who have cracked the golden balance of views and material. they might add a clickbaity thumbnail but the content would be enriching too

they are mostly known for their interviews and political commentary. entertainment news & review is their equivalent of page 3. never checked those out

indian movie yt is suffering from the algorithm dilemma. as the algorithm favours only at the release date, no one covers the old & aged stuff. weekly release model also has developed their audience to be of those who are just checking whether they can watch it or not. so the "reviews" are limited to "yeah it's watchable. vfx were mediocre but watchable. alright acting but you can go check it out"

unironically, the only good space to discuss classics is the comment section on reaction channel watchalongs by foreigners

or the interviews like this

I know I sound like a :#marseygrilling2: here, but that is pretty crazy to me. Do you have any idea of what channels like this bring in financially? I'm in awe, because at that level of success on Youtube (again - I know this sounds laughable) you'd have to basically make like an hour long video every single day, and yet apparently these guys still produce quality content?

https://www.quora.com/Is-Lallantop-owned-by-India-Today-Aaj-Tak?share=1

https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/the-lallantop-com-becomes-the-only-digital-first-original-news-brand-to-cross-10-million-subscribers-on-youtube-1620072-2019-11-18

a media conglomerate (owning tv channels, magazine etc) has investment money in them but it was post their success. while that conglomerate's broadcast channels are biased, reality tv tier quality turds riddled with frequent goofs, lallantop has maintained their autonomy due to the personality cult of its founding editor. imagine initial days vice media. it will go to shitters one day obviously as all things do

its rise can be contributed to the utter intellectual rot in traditional media houses post modi. 90% of them turned into the govt lapdogs overnight, the rest failed due to the outdated advtert models. the disillusioned young generation shifted to the digital only

i have an incomplete kaamrev style longpost on an adjacent topic in drafts, which i wrote to make @Sasanka_of_Gauda seethe

That's actually fascinating.

I'm not gonna read about the India Today group right now (sorry, lol), but the history bit about Vice is really interesting, and I'm starting to see why Vice is still such a thing in my social media feeds.

On Twitter, I get a lot of people sharing stuff by "The Creators Project" and I guess that's under the Vice umbrella too? I figured it was some old guy wanting to stay relevant and I think he's even written stuff about :marseycapy: lol.

My only exposure to Lallantop is from this video, but it sounds like they're the real deal, and they've had this cultural/political effect somehow. I'm starting to see why India didn't have to send in the troops when the farmers were protesting.

Anyway, I'm gonna keep a look-out for their stuff from now on.
