Wouldn't 30k get you a really nice house with land to spare in Brasil?!? I knew a Bolivian guy who worked just abuse the our stronger currency here just so his family could buy up LOTS of land in Bolivia to live like petit aristocracy.

A nice house? No, that's more expensive. It is enough money to start a small business and have a decent life if it goes well though. It's also enough money to buy land to build your house though depending on where you live (real estate in large cities is very expensive), and you can get a mortgage from the bank to build your house then.
The YouTube comment section of this guys interview is filled with Brazilians berating him for that lol. This guy is lower-middle-class but is not some desperate refugee.
