No Drama. I am upset. He had multiple seizures today and I had to drive to the vet to meet my mom and my sister where he got put down. He was 17 and I knew this was coming long ago because he well outlived his life expectency, but today was the day. I'm not posting a picture because frick you. My mood is completely wrecked tho. I didn't know that the vets did it right in front of you. I've euthanatized tons of mice as part of my job, but I wasn't ready for this. I'd really rather they walk out and tell you when it's done. Feel free to dox your pets or whatever below.

He was a good boy, and he tried hard despite having arthritis in his later years. Every day was a new day to experience to him even if the cats bullied him sometimes he was always nice. A true elder statesmen of dog-kind who only responded with kindness. You know the day is going to come, especially when they're that old, but you never think that today will be the day.

I'm so sorry. This past year I lost both of the dogs I grew up with and it hits like a fricking truck. Dwell on the good times you had together and remember him for how he was in life, not on his deathbed.

It’s way better to have been there for your dog. I was holding mine as she was put to sleep and that’s 100% better than having your dog trying to wander around looking for you right before it dies. It still sucks regardless, but in the long run it feels better.

Sorry bud. I was just thinking about my dear friend I put down around 3 years ago. The pain will be immense and long lasting, and to be honest, I don’t think you ever really recover. I think when you lose important people in your life you end up instead just living with grief as scar tissue.
I wish you courage on your journey of grief man. Nothing else for you to do but surrender to the pain and ride it.

My vet did it in front of me. It was peaceful but she kept taking deep breaths for a little bit after she was gone. It really broke me. But it's painless, and we could only be so lucky as to go so peacefully.

I'm sorry man. When I was a young man I foolishly refused to euthanize my dog and he suffered and I'll never forgive myself. You did the right thing which is hard, but it's hard because you loved him and he was a good dog.

when i had to put my childhood kitty down someone told me that when you put an animal down, you transfer all their hurt and suffering to yourself. the pain we feel is worth it if it means they don't have to feel it anymore
