Because unlike in ye olden days, where being able to get fat was a measure of success, stuffing your face 24/7 in an industrialized society is a pretty easy thing to do. Thus, being unable to keep oneself at a healthy fricking weight is a sign of poor willpower/psychological ability and is indeed generally considered unattractive.

I recently had a conversation with my boyfriend about this, because I couldn't get past the idea that my being fat meant I was ugly. We were talking about physical preference in partners, and he told me my size wasn't attractive to him. BUT he found me very attractive. He loves my eyes, my hair, my nose, my height, even my ears lol. There were a ton of attributes that made me attractive to him, and only one that wasn't attractive.

These people usually talk about wanting to stay single their whole lives, so why does it matter what strangers think of them?

Considering children seem to have an instinct to fear or make fun of fat people, I think it has a foundation in biology and is only reinforced by interactions during life.

Because most men are fatphobic jerks that watch porn and they have no idea what women looks like.

But maybe i'm bitter about it :D
