ThinPeopleLove: @pineapple_pizza lost 4kg (10lbs) by fasting for 3 days, and so can you!

https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/07853890.2020.1770849

Seriously, I may start a 3 day fast starting Monday.

If at least a couple of others want to take this journey, that'll help encourage me further to try it out.

Here's his original post: https://rdrama.net/post/79714/i-hit-72-hrs-fasted-water

Here's some tips if you do go ahead: https://www.ryanandalex.com/3-day-fast/

Namely, be careful after the 3 days (reintroduce food slowly for 1.5 days, especially when it comes to carbs), and before fasting, don’t be tempted to eat a final carb-heavy meal - just eat normally.

Here's what I thought was the most interesting part of that article:

At hour 56, just before 4 AM, I woke up. I couldn’t figure out why I woke up until I realized that my heart was racing.

My whole body reverberated with each beat and I checked my Apple Watch to see that my heart rate was at 95 bpm (beats per minute).

Just minutes before when I was sleeping, it was at my typical 55 bpm. My metabolic flip had switched. Ketosis had been reached. My mind felt sharp, clear, and wide awake.

I was no longer hungry. The glucose in my bloodstream must have run out, and my body switched from burning glucose to burning fat. My brain was running on ketones, and adrenaline kicked in.

This is what should happen when you know how to fast for 3 days and you follow the rules.

When reaching a fasted state, insulin plummets while adrenaline (for focus) and human growth hormone (to maintain muscle) skyrocket.

This happened so that our ancestors would be on their top game to hunt and find food. I had finally reaped the rewards of my fasting.

Nice little graph too:

Anyone else want to go along for the ride with me too? Starting probably Tuesday Monday.

Will only take potassium, salt and magnesium to get the essentials during the fast.

EDIT:

IT BEGINS. 5 DAYS OF FASTING:

Day 1:

73kg. Just skipped breakfast. Was a bit excited last night, so only had around 7-8 hours of sleep, less than the usual say 10 hours.

  • 10am: Hunger rating: 2/10 (i.e. not that hungry right now).

  • 3pm: This is easier than I expected, maybe because I'm so determined about seeing this through. Hunger rating around 3/10.

  • 4pm: Plenty of stomach gurgles and I could really use a meal right now, but it's not overpowering or anything yet. 4/10.

  • 8pm: Trickier now. I'd say 5/10 for difficulty.

Day 2:

Had a surprisingly good sleep last night.

  • 7am: 72.5kg. Hunger rating 3/10

  • 9am: Very mild sick/nausea feeling

  • 10am: Very mild pins and needles in hands.

  • 12pm: Very mild pins and needles still and in legs too. Hunger = 5/10. Equivalent to when you haven't eaten all day and expecting a very very tasty meal. I'm going to try to drink salt water now (containing the RDA 3 grams of salt), as I hear that can be essential when fasting.

  • 2pm: Tingling still in hands. Also in feet now and mild headache. Hunger = 5/10. Took Magnesium and high strength Vitamin C and D3.

  • 8pm: Tingling largely subsided. Just feel a bit queasy and light-headed. Taking multivitamins. Hopefully feel better tomorrow! Hunger = 6/10.

Awesome! Monday (tomorrow) it is then. We can compare our experience.

FWIW, I went and bought one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003AIF4Q4/ and quite a few reviews have said how it really helps during fasting. Went on reviewmeta and fakespot, and the ratings seem genuine.

I think that if nothing else, salt water just once a day could help ward off headaches and other side effects etc. Need to do more research though...

Yeah idk man this isnt my first time I already do 2 day fasting regularly. I honestly just drink water and then maybe some sugar free soft drinks when I feel like it and then I just cope. No extras. I do take magnesium, zinc and vitamin D but thats an every day thing. I guess I will keep a "diary" here so you can maybe do your own little diary or just comment your stuff under mine. Will be fun I hope.

There’s something badass feeling about doing the long fast, I feel much more in control of my appetite now.

Even after eating I didn’t like gorge (steak+ eggs, lil fruit) and I have like no sugar cravings.

Just some new benefits cus I tried the 18/6 for a while too.

Did you feel like that you had got that special "switch" described in the main post at around hour 56? :

My metabolic flip had switched. Ketosis had been reached. My mind felt sharp, clear, and wide awake.

I felt those effects by day two, but he’s being a bit dramatic lol. And I didn’t feel a magical “switch” either. Just the like “hey haven’t felt hunger pangs in a while and I’m feeling kinda sharp fr fr”

Right, I'll be doing 4 days starting Monday/Tuesday. I might make it 5 depending on how I feel on the 4th day.

Wish me luck.

Maybe I'll just stop at 3 days if I feel terrible or something. I'm not in ill health or obese or anything so should be fine

I haven't eaten lunch in 5 years. Breakfast is under 200 calories.

Intermittent fasting seems like the only viable way to lose weight. It's the only way I've been able to at least. Some 24h+ fasts in the mix might be an interesting experiment though :marseythinkorino:

Where's the fun in that? I want to flip my metabolic switch and reach "Ketosis", presumably some kind of nirvana state.

It’s more sustainable if you want to keep the weight off but if you just want some kind of nirvana state there’s MDMA

10 lbs in 3 days

yeah that sounds like he just lost a bunch of water weight and literal food weight though. So he will just get it back when he starts eating and drinking again. No way he actually dropped 10lbs of fat, maybe like a 2lb mix of fat and muscle.

Yep, slightly click-bait title from me there. In the article I posted, not eating any food whatsoever is more like losing 0.5lbs (0.2kg) per day, so over the three days, it'd be more like 1.5lbs (0.7 kg), which is still worth it I think! May encourage me to try a week, which is more like 3.5lbs (1.6kg), or even a month which would be 15lbs lost or nearly 7kg!

With fasts like this, is water weight lost before the real fat drops off, or does it go kind of at the same time?

So at 160lbs myself, if I fasted for say a fortnight, would all the water-weight go within the first few days, and then the fat (mostly) follows after, or does the water go simultaneously as the fat's also going?

I recently got a DM telling me one of my posts have been posted on a site called Kiwifarms. I'm scared these people will continue to harass me. Is there anything I can do to stop this, it's depressing to live in a world where sites like this are still allowed to stay up. Maybe I could file some sort of copyright request.
