studied to be a graphic designer but didn't get a job post graduation
>Hey guys does anyone want a new logo?
Yikes I know quite a few people who fell into this meme field having worked in conjunction with design teams earlier in my career.
None of them ever earned much from it.
It's like photography where a bunch of amateurs flooded the field to the point where only the very best make a decent living and everyone fights it out at the bottom.
when i was i college they hirdd a photographer for grad photos. I took a few photos of a friend for her social media while the photographer was also.photographing and he qas aghast to see that i could immediately crop the photos on my phone. lol
There are so many "trained" graphic designers when some grandma named Carol:
Is VERY good at canva, powerpoint, word, illustrator, photoshop, printshop 2000, 10 year old version of Lightroom, and image editing apps with annoying ads
knows all about dpi, been printing church bulletins, displays, and flyers for 20 years
made Dale's Construction company (her brother in law) svg logos for free... he's been using them since 2007
unburdered by font and image licensing, no one cares anyway
fine tuned grandma aesthetic sense from scrapbooking throughout the 90s and 00s
makes an "in loving memory" collage in only 20 minutes, gets one thousand facebook likes
does not care about slanted vs italicized typefaces, intuitively chooses which one looks good
darts around taking 4000 pictures of the wedding, the quantity resulting in several quality shots... while idiot official photographer keeps squinting and aiming for the perfect shots.
would have made the wedding invitations for free with a cute cursive font and had them printed but no one asked but they used a free online template connected to an overpriced printing service instead
made church website in Macromedia Dreamweaver 1. A 20 year old student modernized it in 2017, and now on mobile the hamburger menu won't expand. There's also an app for some reason and it's broken.
hated the "mix of typeface and size" trend that graphic design students were using in 2014
"help son my cloud photos are full AGAIN and they want money... they are forcing me to delete photos HELP "
works at a school, instinctively makes graphics to relieve stress

Yes.
Photography is easy. Lighting and lines.
Graphic design is easy. Fonts and colours.
Keep those very basic concepts in mind and you will basically never need a photographer or graphic design ever.
