These are Hollywood studio movies. There really WON'T be that many other movies this year.
The slop is getting runnier, is what this means. This does not preclude some German scat pornographer from sublimating his cineskills into creating the most breathtaking indie film of the last 60 years; it does mean that American studios will be spending less money on developing killer new IPs such as Black Girl Magic School Academy or Blippi Poop Fart Teehee.

Compare that to 1997, 29 franchise vs 108 non-franchise. It'll be a majority within a few years

He's still a banging film maker from the perspective of what a director does, but he's so hit or miss on picking good scripts.
