The first scene was Geralt vs the giant ant thing.
>queen fighting on the front lines? That's potential to you?
It works well enough as a narrative device and isn't really out of character for book Calanthe. It was fine, even though the medieval combat was as shit as in most fantasy films.

Basically, the Empire isn't a bureaucratic mess mirroring Rome, they're just Nazis as always. Rather than transfer of power, a Cleon instead just cloned himself repeatedly so it's always Cleon in charge. They keep a young, middle aged and old clone alive at all times and rotate them, which definitely isn't just to let them use the same actors in whatever era is being shown.
Hari Seldon is quickly killed off for no good reason to be replaced with a gender and race swapped Gaal, who can also magically see the future. She manages to frick everything up and so ends up cryofrozen in space, but in the 4 days of bullshit this occurs over she manages to get pregnant with a daughter that someone else ends up carrying.
Of course that daughter is a gender and race swapped Salvor Hardin who can also see the future for no reason. Salvor isn't the mayor but instead some kind of brooding girlboss, which further fricks Hari's timeline. Oh, and shock, Hari made an AI copy of himself inside a giant egg with a death field so they can bring the actor back for a 5 minute speech every now and then. That clone also somehow finds Gaal in deep space but she gets pissed and flies off again in a cryopod.
Trantor seems fine-ish but that might be because there's no development. Terminus is basically a refugee tent city and the foundation does nothing useful. The main book plot is so monumentally fricked by this that they basically need a secret second foundation but not on Trantor.
Also Anacreons are a bunch of savages with guns, except their girlboss leader who uses a bow and arrow. Her leadership style is "we do whatever the plot demands, no matter how unreasonable".
There's more to it, but I gave up after the first season.

You're an r-slur. That show was the best TV adaptation of a book series hands down. The only crime they're guilty of is rushing the ending and that isnt that big a deal, endings are whatever.
Reread my comment because I'm in complete agreement. They did an incredible job of adapting the book series to tv. They butchered it when it came to having to go off and continue the series on their own. My point was that three body problem is already a completed book series, so I'm not as worried about them doing this show as I normally would be, given their track record.

I have to thank the shitty WoT show, because it got me out of my reading slump by prompting a reread of WoT. Which led me to read my new favorite series, The Wandering Inn, which is three times as long.
High fantasy. Isekai'd woman is lost, finds an abandoned Inn that she gets up and running. Starts at a casual pace, almost like slice-of-life, and builds to epic scale. Huge world and history to explore. Kinda hard to explain because it is character focused, and telling the larger plot would be spoilers for the slow burn.
It's LitRPG, but done well. It's a less crunchy system than even Sanderson stuff. No stats or menus, just names given to skills/classes.
Basically junk food fantasy for the most part. Hard for the world to feel compelling when you see something like this every several chapters. But can be fun for a pallete cleanser. They usually have fast power growth, which is what brings in the adhd zoomers.
(I'll still simp for The Wandering Inn actually being stellar fantasy)
you're talking to a certified shill so idk what you want me to say, yes i fricking love it lol. like many long series, the first book is all prologue. you have to read the 1st book and then the 2nd book gets into the meat of the plot. read it if you like books where 95% of the characters are detestable and nothing good ever happens. very grimy books, every scene smells awful. i like the way magic is handled in the story, 99% of characters have absolutely no reason to understand it and barely believe it exists so when it (rarely) shows up they're mystified and get their shit rocked.
many people think of it as 1st trilogy, 3 standalones, 2nd trilogy, but i think all the books are connected enough that they count as one long series and the middle 3 books just have 3 unique main characters. if you don't read them all in order the 2nd trilogy will make little sense anyway.

I haven't read the books but know the basic gist of the first 3. As a tolkien fan and a reader of asoiaf, which this will inevitably be compared to despite pre dating Martin's work to start with, it's not fair to compare to either.
Tolkien is basically a fantasy genre unto himself although filming wise stylistically i'd say this is closer to middle earth (tar valon feeling very elvish) than it is to asoiaf.
I know this is 14 books whether they will cover all of them or give up once Amazon's Tolkien project is up and running I don't know, but I hope they give it a chance because it's very good.
The first couple of episodes i wasn't a fan of it did feel very derivative of LOTR, well LOTR if Dr Strange was somehow added into the fellowship. But it has grown on me and despite this being a vast world that really is going to need several series for those of us not completely familiar with the books to really come to grips with, concentrating on a handful of key characters has made it more accessible and it's gone from strength to strength.
Deliberately not putting any spoilers in you can search out the basic premise of the first series and decide for yourself. The show looks incredible, the dialogue is good, Rosamund Pike is scene stealer every time she appears and most importantly apart from the odd nod here and there to lotr (which game of thrones did the endless "there nothing to forgive" nod to legolas and aragorn in the two towers as an example) it feels like it's own thing and not some tribute act to more popular fantasy series.
As with GoT i feel for WOT fans in regard to i am already reading some discontent at changes from the books to the show all I can say is most everything after series 4 in Game of Thrones is garbage i do not remotely expect to see in the books and even though Jordan did die before these books were completed...they were completed. I think I might be the dragon reborn by the time the winds of winter is finished...even so give it a go it's got some very unfair sniffy reviews from critics who seem to forget just how diabolical thrones was from series 5 on and I guess since Peter Jackson's LOTR is the benchmark....this isn't bad.

I never really answered his question. And truthfully, it's complicated. It started as a joke, a funny ha-ha, but now it's blown up into something much more. I started by trying to crawl under your skin. But truthfully, you crawled under mine. I follow your profile, I read everything you post. You're legitimately funny, and you make me laugh. When I read what you have to say, I smile and feel warm and bubbly inside. I absolutely adore every shred of attention that you give me. I know this probably sounds really deranged, but I mean this when I say this: I love you. I've never met you, never seen your face -- but I love you. I want to be your woman. I'll do literally anything you ask me to. I don't understand my own desires, you can be a bit of an butt sometimes and it literally doesn't make any sense for me to be into you. But I love you.

tencent's adaption would have been better if it was only 10-20 episodes. chinese TV series are almost always better with less episodes.
the reason why they stretched the series out to 30 episodes is to get more ad revenue (chinese don't like paying for subscriptions).
