I haven't watched more than half an hour of TV with the wife in months and I was hungover yesterday and just wanted to lie around like a sack of crap anyway, so figured it would be a good time to do a TV night with her.

We started with Smiling Friends, which she surprisingly seemed to like quite a bit. OK, nice. :marseypim:

Then we went to Bill Burr's "Live at Red Rocks."

https://media.tenor.com/cx45heAjb4sAAAAx/baby-oh-boy.webp

Bro just tears into women/feminists for an hour straight. Most of it was funny, but not all of it. I laughed, my wife laughed, but there were more than a few :marseysweating: moments. More than a few. Now today she's in a cranky mood all day and "doesn't know why." We were supposed to BBQ then hit a few bars, now she's not in the mood. You fricked me over, Billy.

How can that be? According to everyone: it's just really, really, really, REALLY bad.

I'm unironically enjoying it. I think people are primed to hate it bc they hate woke (it's not that woke it just has a black (?) dwarf and black elf and Isildur is brown-ish).

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

LOTR fans don't hate it because it's woke, but because it sucks as an adaptation of Tolkien's work, though I would argue it is very mediocre on its own right as well.

I already pointed out how ludicrous it is for Sauron (a powerful Maia) to get miffed by a dozen of orcs.

Jump in the discussion.

It's crazy how much more threatening Sauron felt in the Peter Jackson films and he was just an eye in those movies. In Rings he doesn't come off as intimidating as the characters treat him.

Sauron getting his butt kicked by a bunch of orcs (and he has to give them a speech to convince them to join him before lmao) followed by becoming venom was super cringe. I also don't understand why he went to Mordor to meet Adar if his plan was always to deceive Celebrimbor in Eregion.

  • DickButtKiss : I hate Matt Walsh but I'm on his side here. never seen it n idk why but I hate it deeply

I'm watching ted lasso because I'm bored. It's a feel good story. Definitely some good advice and a lotta pithy quotable bumper stickers on leadership here and there. The comedy is a bit too wholesome and saccharine for my taste but it's actually funny when you think it from a realistic !football p-o-v. Not even the MLS has a team which has a corporate structure so dysfunctional that it results in so much intermingling between the CEO and the managers, players etc. Nevermind a team from the world's richest league.

But what's even funnier is that MattWalsh from "What is a Woman" fame, for reasons unknown, throws an epic :#chudtantrum: :#chudseethe: after watching the series.

Things he accuses Ted Lasso of doing to him

>Deeply damaging his mental health

>It made him lose faith in humanity

>Everyone including people he trusted and respected lied and told him it was a great show

>So he watched it with his wife (i think that's what caused all of his above mentioned problems since all !chuds are homos anyway)

>It's trite, syrupy and corny (Matt's definitely not thinking of peepee here)

If you think I'm exaggerating any of his points, watch it here

YET IT'S YOU WHO IS THE SNOWFLAKE LIBTURD :#chudrage:

Anyway, this show really seems to rile up a lot of conservatives for some reason? :#marseyplacenofun:

The first season is maybe just barely realistic if you can accept the idea that a burgerball coach would ever get hired for a :marseysoccer: team (already a huge suspension of disbelief) but the later seasons go off the rails. But I still enjoyed it, nice to watch something that's unabashedly positive every now and again :marseybrofist: I think certain terminally online rightoids don't like it because it has leftoid nods to things like therapy. Never watched it fully when it came out. But I somehow stumbled upon it, so I thought why the frick not. Was always on my "maybe" list.

It's good old fun with Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) as captain.

But I still remember that my younger me really liked Rommie (Lexa Doig - who I also liked in Continuum). And I have to say that my taste doesn't seem to have changed much. She's still cute af.

Same for me. At the time it came out there was a lot of competition, like this was not too long after TNG. And lots of other stuff, like I mention elsewhere in the thread Space: Above and Beyond. So I had really high expectations for a scifi show. Now I find that tv and our entire culture has gone to shit so I'm going back to these pretty good shows that I passed over in the '90s.

I went through this again a few years ago, at least the main story arc episodes. It's not 100% gold but it's really pretty darn good and holds up well today. Morden has got to be one of the best villains I've ever seen.

When I'm trying to take a nap I'll put on Pluto with something like Red Dwarf :marseycomfy: that reminds me of better times. Or Miami Vice, which really deserves a way better reputation that it got. It's much better than the typical cop show crap of the era and much much better than our era. I notice the same thing with Hawaii Five-O (at least the early seasons.) I guess the big name Chicago critics of the era didn't like shows that were set in interesting places.

Every one of those. Wait, except for '60s Dragnet, that was pretty bad except for hating hippies. The '50s one is a classic tho, the only show I've ever seen where they actually show how cops really operate. Where they got two guys asking the suspect questions really fast, forcing him to make up lies. And then they turn around and ask him to repeat it back. And then they lie to him about what he said the first time and he can't remember what he said because it was a lie and gets really confused.

That's an r-slured take and you know it. How can this be a remake of a show in the 90s?

We can talk about it being a remake of Raumpatrouille Orion/ST:TOS.

How in the heck have I never heard of this yet??? I've lived ate and breathed Star Trek for literally as long as I can remember. I had no idea there was a bosche version of it. Definitely going to watch this, if for no other reason just to see how it compares. Especially interesting because it was made at almost exactly the same time, so they couldn't have known about Star Trek but would have been ripping off inspired by the same things.

How in the heck have I never heard of this yet?

Probably cause it's German/French only? And it's not super well known here either in the under 60 generation. I know about it, cause my parents once bought the VHS tapes of it and me and my sister then watched it as teenagers.

Overall it's different to ST in that ST had more single episodes, while RO always focuses on the frogs (but hey it's only a single season). They also made a supercut where they cut the series into a movie. I would not recommend that though, too much info is missing tbh and iirc one overarching plot element massively suffers from that.

Yes, it's like the X-Files (and I've heard Lost was like this) and American tv shows in general. When they begin they have no idea what the end of the story is going to be, so they just keep trying to come up with excuses to make the story continue. I was so pissed off by this (IIRC Battlestar Galactica was the #1 reason) that I watched k- and j-dramas for a decade. In Asia (at least in that time) every show they already had an idea for the ending before they started shooting. There's no chance for a second season or movie or anything so everything gets resolved. And that lets them do some really crazy stuff for the endings, like they die but God reincarnates them in the bodies of children to give them another chance.

The worst mystery box writing of BSG reboot was when they made a TV movie called " The Plan" and then revealed that the plan that was in every single opener of the show didn't exist. Just not mentioning it worked better than that.

Imagine me screaming and yelling and pointing at a box called "THIS" and repeatedly bashing my head into it

Ronald Moore had done all the Klingon stuff on TNG and DS9. He wanted to escape from the cliches of that. Well one of those cliches was KNOWING HOW TO END YOUR FRICKING STORY. Lately I keep bringing up Witch Yoo Hee but let's be honest it worked. It's that episode of Seinfeld where there's the car accident and the judge sentences somebody to be a butler. Goes absolutely off the rails toward the end (I gotta watch this again from a dramanaut perspective). But it's fun and actually has a goddarn ending.

Which is apparently like poison to the people who make American and Korean TV shows these days.

what an awkward collection of ideas and one dimensional characters

M. Night Shyamalan needs to just be the idea man, some of his ideas are actually interesting. Then he needs to hire someone else to do the actual writing. A film where you're watched by some mysterious entity and you have to figure out what it is would be a good film if it were competently written.

Having a daughter is the most degrading thing you can do with your life

As you're trying to raise her to be a good person she is at home doing buss it challenges on TikTok talking to older men probably getting roped into drugs and stripping. Here in Alabama , she probably will run off at 16 too and marry the bastard. Women these days are just a disappointment, imagine you raise the perfect woman , and she never learns any value of hard work and just gets fricked for a living. I could never, and you're a cucked loser for having a daughter.
