Zero chance that The Wire would have been greenlit today or really any time after 2014 (if not much earlier). Or it would completely remove any criticism or introspection of the black community, a la Boondocks reboot. It would not even hint at the actual issues and primary root causes, but would unwaveringly blame everything but.
Not like any further evidence is needed on essentially a self-evident statement, but David Simon’s new show is exclusively on issues/corruption within the Baltimore PD. I guarantee you that it will not stray even an inch into the (now) verboten social commentary that The Wire highlighted.
Last I checked on the guy he was absolutely sperging out at someone who replied to his tweet because he had an "emoji that only Trumpers use" in his username and was alerting everyone not to listen to anything that Twittertard says.
Nice to hear he's actually somewhat capable of containing himself and still writing good shows.

So what? What are you going to do about it, nerd?

Hot Take: I like season 2 the most. 1 and 3 are more or less about the inner city turf war and drug epidemic, 4 is brilliant from a societal perspective but 2 is where All the pieces literally matter. Season 2 shows beyond any doubt why a few city police officers with a warrant to tap a few calls will not even make the slightest dent on the drug trade. It's just too big to be tamed.
Also, Frank Sobotka is my favorite tragic character of The Wire. His lofty intentions of putting his organisation ahead of himself and tragedy falling on him via the smallest and pettiest personal differences with Valchek is pure Shakesperean kino. In many ways he's the anti-McNulty. Where McNulty would put too many good people knowingly in harm's way for the greater good of catching criminals (Kima in S1 to the phantom serial killer story) Frank would placate too many bad people for the greater good of the American blue collar industry.
Okay Bryan Cranston is an S tier actor, but I grew bored of the story a few seasons in I can’t even remember exactly when. Just so many boring or unlikable characters. Any scene with Skylar, Flynn, the brother in law, or the sister in law is zzzzzz for me. Also Jesse is a weak supporting star imo.
Never seen BCS but it’s the flavor of the month right now and I’m a contrarian at heart so yeah it’s shit.

The new show was pretty good. I was worried it would go too hard into the progressive viewpoint but outside of one little bit it didn't.

I loved season 3 but let’s be honest Bodies death, Bubbles/Sherod storyline, Randys storyline, these are the most powerful moments on the show.
I do love Cutti tho he was my fav part of season 3

Okay but we can all agree Bodies death was the saddest death in the series, though I liked Stringers too.

Absolutely not! Wallace is the saddest death by a longshot!
That kid grew up to be Killmonger from Black Panther BTW

Maybe, though there's also the little kid from Season 1 and D'Angelo to consider.
edit: and Frank Sobotka

Oh yeah Wallace was good, crazy to think that was Micheal B. Jordan. I still wanna yell “Where’s Wallace?” everytime I see him in something new.

Frick you. It's incredibly difficult for a show to portray a normal, decent person's descent into moral bankruptcy convincingly and BB did it.
That's an accomplishment in and of itself.

I went into The Wire expecting it to be overrated but imo it mostly lives up to the hype

Fair warning season 5 in mosts opinion the worst season but still nowhere near bad TV and worth it to tie up storylines.
Wish I could watch season 4 for the first time again enjoy bro
