Smile 2022 (spoilers)

WARNING: TRAILER SPOILS THE BEST JUMPSCARE

Had seen this in my Amazon prime recommendations for quite some time, but thought it was just some trash until I stumbled upon the final monster scene on YouTube. After watching the above trailer, I definitely had to check this out.

Good:

  • Some great cinematography, interesting skewed/upside down shots to give a feeling of unease throughout.

  • The ultimate monster reveal has a cool design, the multiple mouths and it stretching Rose's face and forcing itself inside her was pretty horrific.

  • GREAT OST.

By Cristobal Tapia de Veer, the same guy who did the OST for the original British Utopia series. Personally, I love freaky Postal 1, silent hill, etc. fricked up soundscapes, so this was right up my alley.

Read the comments :marseylaughpoundfist:, I wish I got paid to make weird sounds that traumatize wagies :marseysad:

Bad:

  • While the monster could easily be seen as a metaphor for trauma, the dialogue really beats a dead horse when it comes to this concept. Perhaps it's being extremely online, but hearing "muh trauma" repeatedly really makes me not want to like this.

  • The penultimate monster form (pre-face removal) looked like a hulking :marseytrain:, so I was like "AYO THIS B-WORD GETTING CHASED BY BARDFINN :marseyxd:", which didn't really help my immersion.

  • Trailer spoiled the best jump scare, the sister's head while Rose is in the car, that was a bummer.

  • The scene where Rose goes on a killing spree at the hospital was so ridiculous, I was cracking up. I don't think that was supposed to be the intended response.

  • Rose was :marseymid: and there were no boobas, major horror faux pas :marseyindignant:

Overall, 6.5/10, will probably watch the sequel. Hopefully de Veer comes back with more soundkino :marseybegging:

It was first aired in the United States on June 3, 2006, at 12:30 AM (EST) on Adult Swim. On June 18, Adult Swim ran a bumper announcing that Korgoth of Barbaria was officially picked up as a series, because of its critical and commercial success with garnering high ratings. Later events, including a formal petition to revive the show[1] and an Adult Swim bumper announcement mentioning its cancellation, indicate that it was dropped before production began due to high production costs.

:marseyhappening: Disney finally lost the top studio position this year! :marseyrave:

For years Disney was the top earner among Hollywood, enjoying a dangerous amount of success to the point where there were rumours that the studio is trying to swallow up it's competitors and enforce a monopoly on the filmmaking business. Their dominance started in 2016 :marseytrump: and there's a reason why The Mouse pushed the DEI stuff so hard, it has proven to be a really good strategy... until it wasn't :marseysmug2:

Covid was the first blow to Disney, causing them to lose the domestic crown to Sony in 2020, and they never managed to recover from it. It was during the lockdowns that the audience moved from eating up any shitty nostalgia bait movie to seeking out different types of movies, and it was after everyone recovered from covid that Disney's second favorite gimmick, put a minority in the movie to avoid criticism, started to grate on the public.

So now Universal moved in and pushed Disney off the pedestal :marseyparty:

Fishtank Season 2 Discussion Thread

They aren't torturing them enough. TJ is crying under a pillow rn, last season he would have had some trash dumped on him or smth this season he's probably gonna get some EXTREME THERAPY in the HELLHOUSE COUNSELING CHAMBER :marseysociety:

All in all the people are just more boring and aren't fricking with each other enough (besides Jimmy):

So production is having to push drama too much vs letting it develop on its own.

The biggest thing is going too easy on them though, right now it's like a free vacation not an endurance test of wills. Torture them and they'll start being more entertaining.

Why are foid shows like this?

Been watching a foid show about SOMETHING (with my foid of course)

Why am I 10 season in and I know less about the plot and more about everyone's current, past and imaginary relationships?

Do foids unironically watch this?

Ripple effect of all this along with other successes(Barbie, Wonka, etc...) is that WB CEO Zaslav, the guy that the internet has a hate boner for, might continue leading the company. :marseyshrug:

@cyberdick. Since, you asked about whether Aquaman will outgross The Marvels or not in the last thread. Here's your answer. It will almost double it.

Watched An American Werewolf in London

It was fricking fantastic. I don't want to spoil too much since I really want you guys to watch it for yourselves but man I was thoroughly entertained. The tone and pacing were great, I loved the characters, the nurse lady was hot, and the ending was so shocking and well done. Everything just came together in the best way. I highly recommend it!
