Last week, Pallavi Sharma, a sprightly young woman in her early 20s, found her dreams of studying abroad shattered. Pallavi, who successfully cleared her IELTS with a score of 6.5 bands in September last year, had been eagerly planning to pursue an undergraduate program in a Canadian university.

Her engagement last month added another layer to her journey, as her fiancé was set to sponsor her student visa. However, a recent announcement by Canada's immigration minister, Marc Miller, has thrown a wrench into her well-laid plans.

So she wanted to come over here and flip burgers lol.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Pallavi expressed her disappointment, saying, “After completing class 12, I pursued a diploma in computer applications and cleared IELTS with 6.5 bands. Due to financial constraints, my family explored the option of a spouse visa, where the boy wanted to go abroad. Everything was arranged, and I even got engaged. But the new regulations state that spouses of students in undergraduate programs cannot obtain an open work permit. Without financial support from my fiancé's family, there is no way I can pursue my dreams. My family doesn't have the means to pay my fees.”

!leafs look at this shit! b-word is admitting outright to using marriage as a way to come here and work illegally. She doesn't even bullshit about finding true love, just "I wanted to go to canada so my father talked to his friend and engaged me to his friends son".

Of late, such ‘IELTS weddings' had become a new route to Canada in Punjab. A study titled “A study on overseas migration from Rural Punjab: Trends, Causes, and Consequences,” by Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) from 1990 to 2022 revealed that 9.51% of Punjabis migrated abroad on a spouse visa. Notably, over 50% of these migrants were males. The gender-wise distribution showed that males (53.16%) outnumbered females (46.89%). This shift was attributed to a new trend of ‘contract marriage' initiated by men with women obtaining high IELTS bands for study visas who would later sponsor their husbands on spousal open work visas.

We need to end visas for indians entirely. Just suck it up and start paying whites the extra 4 an hour they demand to do fast food jobs, or heck just close half the restaurants. They've over saturated the market anyway

It is commonplace for families to place matrimonial advertisements seeking IELTS-passed girls, with the groom's family covering the wedding expenses, sending the girl to Canada, and bearing the financial burden—often exceeding 25 lakhs. Jagseer Singh Jhumba from Jhumba village in Bathinda highlighted this trend, stating, “It was a gateway to enter Canada.”

No idea what a lakh is worth but I'm guessing it's not much. !fellas how would you feel about a mail order Indian bride?

The trend of groom's families paying for the IELTS exam of the girl, often from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, is widely known. Unfortunately, incidents of suicides and police complaints have been reported when girls refused to call grooms after reaching Canada or when couples divorced after obtaining permanent residency.

lmao rare based !foidmoment

I'm confused… isn't this just progressive tax? Like if she was making the same (total) compensation at one job instead of two, she'd pay the same tax. So what she's arguing for is that she should pay less tax because she's working two jobs to get the same level of income, instead of one?

Yea and it fricks over poorcels to the point many will only take other jobs if paid in cash.

Feels kind of unreal to read about someone that has to work 60 hour weeks to make ends meet advocate against progressive tax rates.

Yea cuz like why wood u not like paying lots of tax?

!leafs why are our country men such smug pricks?

Luckily she can still stay in KKKanada while she waits for the results of her second appeal :marseywereback:

https://old.reddit.com/r/USAexit/comments/17t1crm/update_on_asylum_case_from_us_in_quebec

Hey y'all,

I know this is going to get a lot of hate and downmarseyd, but don't be afraid to DM me if you have questions.

In addition to the Basis of Claim and all the evidence I submitted, I had two hearings and almost had a third until my attorney asked the judge to let us submit the information that the public stalking resources in Texas were better than those in Massachusetts in writing.

This seemed to work as the entire six hours of hearings and additional submissions was about the “Internal Flight Alternative”, which is basically the argument that I could have found a safe place to go in the US.

At the conclusion of the second hearing, the judge literally told me and my lawyer (and my social worker who was there to support me) that there was no problem with my credibility nor claims of persecution. I also have a DVD of this comment by the judge.

But in the decision? First, it took so long that another government office sanctioned me believing I was hiding a decision from them. Nope. It just took nearly four months.

Either way, it seems like I made a solid argument against being able to find safety in another location in the US because, despite being the only thing I was questioned about for six hours, the judge's decision doesn't mention an Internal Flight Alternative at all. In fact, despite saying that there was no problem with the proof I had provided that I was persecuted as a member of a protected identity during the hearing, the judge said that I hadn't proved I was persecuted in her decision.

Like, not only was this issue not addressed by a single question throughout the hearing, but she has contradicted herself. It's clear they're just looking for any excuse to roll out of this, even though it's clear my life is at stake.

So, yeah. Luckily I have an attorney and I can appeal. I hope it's not more of a kangaroo court from here.

She tried to rant about her problems to /r/immigration but they were very rude

https://undelete.pullpush.io/r/immigration/comments/18fecir/ranting_about_being_a_disabled_immigrant

I often feel orphaned from a lot of the communities related to my identities. It's really not just my identity as an immigrant that conflicts with my identity as a disabled person. A lot of my identities conflict.

However, here is the conversation flow for the immigration community in relation to me.

Immigrant community: OMG YOU'RE AN AMERICAN CITIZEN AND YOU CLAIMED ASYLUM?! Look at all the visas you could get with your passport!!! This is RIDICULOUS!!!

Me: But you have to work to get the visas and I can't work. I am disabled.

Immigrant community: But you are from America. They have money!

Me: In the US, newly (fully) disabled people can't move to protect themselves from violence because disabled people pursuing the US application for disability payments have to be someone's financial dependant for 2-3 years, like a child. You can't go anywhere in the country unless someone will take you in for 2-3 years.

highly stressful sidebar with the immigration community about invisible disabilities

long pause

Immigrant community: Well, we're not supporting you. Immigrants work hard and pay taxes! That's the line. We can't be sticking our necks out for you.

Me: …but I'll die???

Immigrant community: ….

The tldr is that OP is a deranged lunatic and public menace (has bragged about biting a cop and pepper spraying a kid whilst in Canada) who has been rejected for asylum twice, soon to be three times, because she wants to be taken care of by a nanny state and leech off the tax payers' money.

Rude!

I guess Canadian welfare is paying for her care worker, and it was very hard for her when she had to take the holidays off https://old.reddit.com/r/disability/comments/18pi6u7/so_to_all_my_fellow_disableds_whose_care_workers

Svp cesse d'employer l'écriture inclusive. J'ai mal aux yeux

Ah ben, t'as de l'haine aux immigrant.e.s et femmes? WOW.

Wow that's just fricking great, try speaking and writing french properly before taking it for an ideological spin, would you ?

Are you on some kind of subversive mission here ? Why don't you move to Portland and leave us alone ?!

He gets mad at her for using "inclusive writing", which is basically an attempt to get around the grammar rule that the masculine form of words is supposed to be used when there is a mixed group of people or as the default. They do this by putting periods in the middle of words

She also wrote a blog post about her experiences as an neurodivergent stalking victim https://www.lamaisondelautisme.ca/post/disadvantages-of-being-an-neurodivergent-stalking-victim-1

Rien, t'as mis trois ingrédients ensemble.

What is the worst version of O Canada?

This version is pretty bad, but mostly due to being on the worst instrument imaginable.

Or maybe this is the worst instrument.

Seems a bit a silly, but not too terrible.

I actually like the heya hoya version :marseyjamming:

Bonjour

Tax evasion tips?

As we all know the top tax bracket is >50% in some provinces. Way too high for what we get out of it. Looking to pay less, anyone got any tax evasion tips for next year? I've got a sole proprietorship on the side if that helps. Already maxed RRSP and FHSA so no luck there.

Inb4 move to America (I am strongly considering it)

:marseyflagcanada: Dear fellow schizocarpic enjoyers....

Did you know, you national tree :marseycanada: is schizocarpic?

Funny word, eh? It actually has nothing to do with our schizo carpic head janny.

It actually has nothing to do with to do with schizophrenia, or cyprinidae.

The word schizocarpic means that a plant makes seeds in pair of 2, evenly divided twins. Florists have an odd way to name things.

Our cherished Maple is schizocarpic. Is our schizo carp a maple?

Kill all leafs.

Day of the rake when?

My normie friends and family all know I'm kind of racist and misogynist, but know that I keep it classy and don't sperg out very much on that stuff, so they ignore it when it comes up.

However! They know that the second a goddarn leaf gets brought up I'm completely incapable of holding it in and everybody sighs and starts walking away as soon as they hear me winding up. I am proud that this is my most vocal -ism, my most strongly felt prejudice, and I feel personally offended when people incorrectly believe that I hate normies or furries more than Canadians.
