Putin condemned e-books and said you couldn't feel "what the writer feels", unlike reading paper copies.

Most media and sources are convinced that Putin doesn't use Internet and gets all his news and reports via printouts prepared for him. pic.twitter.com/Kcdll1dnUn

The main weakness of ebooks is that there is a weaker sense of progression. This does not matter much for fiction, but for a textbook it can feel a little torturous.

Also jumping back is a pain. On kindle especially. I never learned the bookmarks thing. Also when you are half asleep and realized you just went 2 pages ahead without consuming any of it it's like 2 slow pages back. Maybe new ones are faster

On the flip side if you like what you're reading you just tap-tap-tap away and the pages fly by. It's comfy.

I spend my workdays staring at a screen. I spend a lot of my leisure time staring at a screen. An ebook is taking one of my hobbies that doesn't involve screen use and putting a screen in it
For that reason, I don't like or use ebooks

The laptops will continue to be made and used regardless of books and the environmental impact of ebooks and the tiny amount of electricity needed to write and read them is tiny when compared to the paper industry.

It's not like you can easily print out a book and have it delivered to you within time anyways. There are thousands of books about some specific topic made in an specific language that has like 10 copies and most people are not going to bother tracking down that one dust covered, copy inside a library in Svalbard just to feel the physicality that comes with an actual book

As long as someone's actually reading idc, I reserve my hatred for audio"book" listeners. Reading requires active intention, audio"books" turn it into passive entertainment no better than mindless goyovision brainrotting slop

Verbal storytelling is one of the most ancient and persistant art forms. I bet you think works like the illiad and odyssey are great literary works when they're literally transcriptions of verbal tales.
I guess midwits that can't memorize thousands of stanzas for recital would like the passive act of just parroting a text in front of them.

I wonder how often individuals would change parts of epics like Iliad and Odyssey when they were the ones telling them. I mean I'd totally change parts I didn't like if I was the village bard

Audiobooks. Reading to children. The paul harvey show. As a means of rhetoric normally done in public speaking (joe bidens corn pop story). Plays. Telling your friends stories for entertainment. A huge portion of small talk is literally relating short, well told stories about yourself as a form of bonding.

There was a kid in my middle school who used to eat the top right corner of each paper of his math worksheets/books in school. My band director asked him to spit out his gum once and he said it was paper.
Giga neurodivergent and I honestly never knew what to make of him.
He told me that chewing paper makes you smarter(?)
