any recommendations for a good Inkscape guide? GIMP has been having it's limitations for me and is hard to make stuff look clean af like this

I never used a guide. This is one of Inkscape's recommended guides. ("Recommended" means it was linked to on the website.) If I were new to Inkscape, I'd just use the pen tool to draw something simple (maybe a cartoon house?) or trace an image. It's the one with a tooltip that says "Draw Bezier curves and straight lines". You just click a few times and then click back on the first node, and it creates a polygon. Or you can double click if you want it to be an open shape. Then you edit its nodes (you can find the tool on the left panel or press N) if you want it to have curves. You can convert the nodes into smooth nodes or edit their handles (click on the nodes and drag the circles or Shift + drag the nodes if you can't see them). You can also make it curved as you're drawing it, but I find that difficult to control.
To change the color of the shape, navigate to "Object" in the menu bar, and click "Fill and Stroke". That should open a panel on the right that allows you to change colors. Or you can use the shortcut Shift + Ctrl + F. There are also other useful keyboard shortcuts like B (Bezier tool), S (select), and N (edit nodes). To rotate an object, make sure you're in Select mode, select the object (there should be outwards pointed arrows), and click on it again. Then drag the arrows. Good luck learning to use Inkscape!
