Both are far too developed too be a shithole. Westoids just seethe about their politics, the existence of a sub-continental slave caste, and that they don't let foreigners openly violate their laws. Life is pretty good for natives of these countries and wealthy foreigners who understand discretion. Literally everypony @AnalKong knows who lived in Saudi for work reasons ended up loving the country although you go through a hardcore culture shock you're first year or two. Oman gets less western expats than saudi but from what I've heard quality of life is good and terror attacks are extremely rare there. You're genuinely more likely too get killed by islamists in europe than in oman.
