K-selection always dooms civilizations to eventual extinction at the hands of R-selected societies unless they rely on AI and robotics to make up the quantity shortfall.
Which is frankly quite easy to do as long as the K-selected societies aren't gutless, because they almost always have superior technology compared to the inferior R-selected societies
