NEW: Gavin Newsom says he was visiting a Target and got blamed for a shoplifting incident to his face by a worker who didn't recognize him.
Remarkable 😂
During a Zoom call, Newsom said he was at a checkout line when someone left the store without paying.
Newsom asked the worker why nobody stopped the shoplifter.
“She goes, ‘oh, the governor.' Swear to God, true story on my mom's grave.”
“The governor lowered the threshold, there's no accountability,” the worker said.
“She looks at me twice and then she freaks out, she calls everyone over, wants to take photos,” Newsom said.
“I'm like, ‘no we're not taking a photo, we're having a conversation, where's your manager? How are you blaming the governor?'”
“And it was $380 later, and I was like ‘Why am I spending $380, everyone else can walk the heck right out?”

Though technically it was a ballot measure, Newsom didn't sign it into law.

$951 with variable instant rebate . Though if everything is a felony they'll probably just start not prosecuting felonies...

I think technically the threshold was raised. Basically you can steal up to a grand of shit and it's a misdemeanor so no one does anything about it. It used to be like $300 before it was felony.

Florida has a higher threshold than California for felony shoplifting, and there has never been a reason for misdemeanors to go unenforced, anyway.
The real problem is a mix of lenient judges, progressive DAs, and cops silently striking because their feeling are hurt by the idea that laws apply to them.

Yes, everyone focuses on the fact that it's a misdemeanor and completely forgets to ask, "Why are DAs not prosecuting misdemeanors? Those are still crimes, just less severe ones." And the answer is, "It's ideological/political suicide to point out that broken windows policing works, it just tends to be implemented in a dangerous, racist way because cops are violent, self-serving idiots."
So instead of trying to fix the system and actually curb criminal behavior, they've decided to just pretend every criminal is Jean Valjean stealing bread to feed his sister's starving children. Which is terrible for society, but great for their polling numbers.

Which is exactly why I, a California state resident, who loves his state, highly encourage anyone living in California to NEVER LEAVE our great state. No matter the circumstance, do not leave California and move to any other state that's probably filled with racist Trumpers. It is imperative that if you voted for Biden and/or Newsom, you should stay exactly where you live, otherwise the Republicans will get a majority and use the electoral college against us.
Long live California!
