Can someone who is more worldly than me explain this case to me?

Rich guy had s*x with porn star, then arranges pay-off for her to keep her mouth shut. Because she's a whore, of course she can't keep it shut and tries extorting more money out of him by going public during his first presidential campaign. Now politically-motivated New York prosecutor is taking a case against him, not for paying off the hooker, but for paying her off from the wrong slush fund. Apparently this should have been a campaign expense not a private expense. Yeah, it makes no sense to me either, but it's got nothing to do with "breaking the law" and all to do with "you're in the wrong political party and we're going to stop you running against our guy by hook or by crook".

My shitlib friends were all over it recently (I think Donnie's is currently in hearings over it?) and they were saying he's accused of fraud. Is it actually fraud? You got any heckin' SOURCES? :marseynerd3: :soysnoo3:

no that's probably the "we don't have a victim but he lied on paperwork to get a loan" case in new york

Pretty sure thats a different case, that's the NY trial that just started. The SCOTUS isn't involved in that, this is from the Biden Justice Dept trying to charge him with Jan 6th election interference shit.

This is correct

People are trying to arrest a politician for fricking a hooker. Which he probably did, but its kind of like he who is without sin cast the first stone

If they're going to try and convict "politicians who slept around while in office, out of office, and between being in office", they'll need to build three new jails, one with a wing just for Bill Clinton alone. Anthony Weiner is gonna need his own separate jail.

Isnt the crux of the issue whether he used campaign funds to shut the hooker up?

!slots200

Jump in the discussion.

Which, is still something poticians do. But really its about if paying off a hooker is a reportable campaign expense. Not where he paid from

Jump in the discussion.

Not where he paid from

wouldnt it matter whether he spent his own money or donor money meant for his campaign?

Paying hush money for something that would hurt your campaign seems like a a reasonable campaign expense.

The other replies are r-slurred and wrong. This isn't the hooker case this is about the January 6th one. Specifically how far does presidential immunity go, which would also effect the Florida, Georgia, and New York cases as well.

It sounds like an argument about ineffective counsel in essence. If you go shoppi g for an attorney that tells you its ok to murder your b-word ex-wive, is that an absolute defense against the murder charge? No, and also the attorney is disincentivised from giving advice like that because it gets him disbarred and he loses his job and income forever.

Also, dodnt Trump pay the hooker before he was elected? Immunity seems completely irrelevant to the case because it doesn't concern his actions as POTUS but as a private citizen...

They're using the fact that he was a president at the time to jump it from a state level offense to a federal level offense so they kind of have to take the good with the bad there. The state level offense already had its statute of limitations run out and the federal government declined to prosecute so they've got an attorney general who's being very creative

Jump in the discussion.

How do they plan on pulling that off? You got any lawcel sources that aren't lawtuber-tier librags?

lol that nigga kept talking, he wasn't even speechless for a second

JUSTICE ALITO: Well, will that --
won't that give presidents an incentive to be
sure to pick an attorney general who can -- who
will reliably tell the president that it is
lawful to do whatever the president wants to do
if there's any possibly conceivable argument in
favor of it?
MR. DREEBEN: So I think the
constitutional structure protects against that
risk. The president nominates the attorney
general and the Senate provides advice and
consent.
And these are the sort of structural
checks that have operated for 200 years to
prevent the kind of abuses that my friend fears
going forward as a result of this
once-in-history prosecution.```

SCOTUS cases aren't televised or recorded in any way. (it's to protect our heckin' democracy, chud, stfu)

The best they can do is literally send a tumblr artist in with a pen and paper to make horribly funny sketches of people.

So I had to double-check, and it's not demonstrably wrong, but it seems they do allow audio recordings in addition to sketches. I didn't know that.

The Supreme Court of the United States does not allow cameras in the courtroom when the court is in session, a policy which is the subject of much debate.[1] Although the Court has never allowed cameras in its courtroom, it does make audiotapes of oral arguments and opinions available to the public.[2]
