I heard this postulate about why weebs are sometimes neurodivergent and it makes so much sense. It said that since anime always has over the top voice acting and almost no subtlety, high functioning autists are able to watch it because they normally can't understand sarcasm. Also, since anime is animated, they have an easier time judging the exaggerated emotions displayed by characters.

I can't figure out if it's always been that way, but there's this sizable crowd of autists and average Joe r-slurs on a horseshoe influencing media with "well why didn't you explain that?
