I heard this postulate about why weebs are sometimes neurodivergent and it makes so much sense. It said that since anime always has over the top voice acting and almost no subtlety, high functioning autists are able to watch it because they normally can't understand sarcasm. Also, since anime is animated, they have an easier time judging the exaggerated emotions displayed by characters.

I think the style of anime, with all the baggage it has, is antithetical to a good story. Never checked the "this proves anime is art!" shit like Berserk or Evangelion, never will. But if they are truly great stories, turn them into a regular novel or a live-action movie. Additional challenge: No panty shots allowed.
