There's a few HN threads on this:
anyone who drives a large pick-up truck for non-commercial reasons is a grade A butthole
Key Ideas: Heavier vehicles are safer for their occupants but more dangerous for others: The weight of a vehicle is a critical factor in car crashes, with heavier vehicles causing more fatalities in other cars, pedestrians, and cyclists.
Sounds like a heavier car is actually safer to put me and my loved ones inside, at least for now.
Sounds like it's safest for me and my family to physically prevent you from doing that.

I don't mind big trucks. What I do mind is the headlights being placed at eye level of a 7ft tall man with the latest 20,000lm LED array lighting in the most offensive tint to the human eye and the low IQ impatient mongoloids who ride behind you touching your rear bumper when you're already doing 15 over the limit. And the women who are "it safe for muh family" while they're glued to their phone as they go 50mph in a 35mph zone.

Jesus Christ yes. Driving at night in the country sucks, especially when some c*nt is behind you with shit so bright you're accumulating rads.

Simply mandating auto-leveling headlights would do wonders

You know how the rest of the world figures that external fire escapes are good enough as a backup measure on buildings. Not the USA. We literally have building codes that cost billions of dollars a year to implement to save less lives than that. It's frikking absurd.

Dual egress with the requirement hallways have to be wide enough to accommodate two wheelchairs. One of the escape routes has to be internal and fireproof, its usually cheaper to have both internal.
Its all about keeping the BIPOCs out of white neighborhoods. They can't make policy about that publicly but they just start with the premise of keep darkie down and then work backwards.

I am against this because you could far more easily pass policies in other spheres that would save far more lives annually.
I like the idea of going after the < 100 deaths stopped per year policies after we are finished with the < 1000 deaths per year policies. At least keep it linear so that people will actually get used to it.

You could absolutely get past CAFE if you wanted, there's no way a turbo 4banger can't pass emissions and a ranger weighed like 400lbs less than a 4 door sedan so it's not a horsepower issue. Take the drivetrain out of some miserable crossover and put it on a ladder frame
Jump in the discussion.

Can't do it. The footprint/mpg ratio is bonkers, you'd need to have like 75MPG on a minitruck now, or else it's gotta be electric (hint: the feds want you to drive electrics)

With 2 to 400lbs less than any other car with the same drivetrain that hits the goals why wouldn't a truck?
Install a factory tonneau cover or cap or something to save the aerodynamics, doesnt make sense to me

not my heckin f350 that gets 5 miles per gallon, takes up two spaces in the costco parking lot, and has only left the road three times when I hopped the curb at the starbucks drive through
how will I bring these two shopping carts full of reasonably priced snack food and dairy products home to my family?

The only reason giant cars are so common is because the government made it too expensive to buy small ones.

Seems like a huge waste of time and money just to save 67 lives a year. Might as well just hire more police to crack down on boozecruisers (please excuse my boozecruiser-misia) so you can save a lot more lives for less money and without trying to take people's big trucks away from them.
Or MAYBE they could just get rid of the Obama era fuel efficiency standards which led to the trend of bigger and bigger trucks as a loophole to get around those standards.

okay, kid im done. i doubt you even have basic knowlege of hacking. i doul boot linux so i can run my scripts. you made a big mistake of replying to my comment without using a proxy, because i'm already tracking youre ip. since ur so hacking iliterate, that means internet protocol. once i find your ip i can easily install a backdoor trojan into your pc, not to mention your email will be in my hands. dont even bother turning off your pc, because i can rout malware into your power system so i can turn your excuse of a computer on at any time. it might be a good time to cancel your credit card since ill have that too. if i wanted i could release your home information onto my secure irc chat and maybe if your unlucky someone will come knocking at your door. id highly suggest you take your little comment about me back since i am no script kiddie. i know java and c++ fluently and make my own scripts and source code.

The proposed standard would establish test procedures simulating a head-to-hood impact and performance requirements to minimize the risk of head injury. NHTSA estimates the new standard would save 67 lives a year.:
