Any community is rife with people who abuse their online powers, and Reddit is no exception. But assuming mods are by definition all pathetic losers is such a weird Reddit echo chamber.
Like, honestly I don't get it. A big chunk of mods are just people who are passionate about creating or sustaining a community.

NBA sub jannies are pathetic losers. About half are Warriors fans and they regularly remove criticism of that team as well as discussions when that team loses.
