Even before Madame Web was released in theaters, the new Sony film seemed poised to perform poorly, largely due to a questionable marketing campaign. Madame Web's first trailer became known for the cringeworthy line, "He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders, right before she died," which was quickly mocked and led to countless memes and jokes for a movie that hadn't even been released yet. This line is not spoken even in the actual movie, but the damage was already done in the leadup to it.

People overanalyse this stuff. People are just getting tired of the formula

Yeah. 2023 kind of seemed like the writing is on the wall for cape shit fatigue and iirc the only marvel cape shit slotted for 2024 is Deadpool 3 at the end of the year.

At least deadpool is kind of fun to watch. Every single capeshit movie is just the exact same thing copy and pasted.

Theres no investment in the story. Like think about the harry potter series - people really wanted to know what happened next or how it would be done in the movie, people were invested.

Ive never felt that way about a capeshit movie. Theyre all the same generic garbage with poorly timed jokes and characters nobody cares about.

Deadpool is fun in large part because it is different, and openly mocks the absurdity of comic books and comic book movies. You can't scale that up: if you applied the DP formula to every Marvel movie it would get tired and annoying.

Yeah and honestly every one of them being released on Disney+ a month later leaves little reason for most people to spend $40 in a theater for I think a majority of people that are vaguely interested in them.
